Karen Claypool is the head coach of the Nevada Neptunes Swim Team. She has coached swimming for a total of 24 years in Grandview, Butler and now Nevada, MO. Her swimming career began at age 4 when she joined a summer club team in Kansas City, MO. This moved to a year round habit when she began swimming for the Raytown Seahawks at age 10 and continued there until college. William Jewell College and Kansas University offered her a scholarship to swim. She chose to swim for William Jewell because of the academic path it took her towards her career as an Occupational Therapist. Her joy of swimming and the love of this sport is what brings her back each year to coach. She says, "There is nothing more rewarding than coaching a swimmer and seeing them get out of a race with a smile on their face when they have realized they have dropped their time!"
