Coach Lyman Burr
I began coaching
CatTracks in 2006 and it is the best, most fun part of my day!
I have
been involved in swimming for most of my life. During high school
and college, I was
a lifeguard and was twice certified Red Cross Water Safety
Instructor (WSI). During
that period, I taught hundreds of children Red Cross swim lessons.
I’ve renewed my Red
Cross lifeguard certification for the benefit and safety of
our swimmers as well as CPR and First Aid. Last year I became
the Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) for Fair Acres and now this year
have again became WSI certified as we are giving water safety
instruction to every 2nd grader in the Carthage School
District.
As my own children
(Addison 21 & Aurelia 19) began swimming, my family
became
involved with CAT (Carthage Aquatic Team, a summer competitive team
in the Tri-State
Swim Conference) in 2003. Summer swim team is a wonderful family
activity, and it is
with great joy that we have watched our children develop not only
swim skills, but self-management and independence.
As my team’s coach,
I share my training and experience as a stroke and turn judge
at
Tri-State Swim Conference meets and high school competitions. I am
certified in swim
officiating by both Missouri State High School Activities
Association (MSHSAA) and
YMCA. I have also completed USA Swimming officiating
training. On the coaching side I have completed the
Principals of YMCA competitive swimming as well as the USA swimming
course for coaches. Member of ASCA (American Swim Coaches
Association).
All of these training and certification efforts allow me to help
the swimmers learn and
understand how to properly and legally swim all four competitive
strokes.
