David Montgomery

Head Coach

I was assistant coach for the Preble County Stingrays for 10 years which included 5 straight years of finishing 2nd in the SOSL. I was President of the Preble County Stingrays Swim Team for 11 years.  By emphasizing fun and fairness, I helped to grow the Stingrays from 55 members in 2005 to 175 members in 2014. We had over 140 swimmers each year.

I was an assistant coach for the Eaton High School swim team 5 years and was the head coach for 3 years.  Eaton had a team finish 13th in 2012 at the Ohio High School state swim finals and they finished 22nd in 2015. Also had a swimmer place 6th in the State of Ohio in the 50 freestyle in 2014 and 8th in 2015 I started the stroke development/conditioning/swim team at the Preble County YMCA where I have had swimmers qualified for YMCA zones and nationals. This program has turned into the Preble County YMCA Piranhas winter swim team. We had swimmers make it to YCMA 5 state zone meet and one swimmer made it to YMCA short and Long course national meets.

I have attended numerous coaches’ clinics which have featured various Olympian swimmers and very successful college coaches including Bob Bowman, coach of Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps.  I am certified as a USA swim coach and USA swimming official, certified as a YMCA swim coach, and American Swimming Coaches Association ASCA Level 2 coach.

I have two daughters, Jessica and Brooklyn, and one granddaughter, Maddie. While growing up in Eaton, he swam for the Eaton swim team for 11 years.  I worked as a lifeguard and taught swim lessons for five years as a summer job.  As a coach, I always keep a positive atmosphere on the pool deck. 2 of my main rules are “Can’t and I cannot do this” are phrases that are not used.

Please feel free to email ([email protected]) me any questions you have about the Piranhas and would love to see you on the swim deck.
