Brian E Heaton

Head Coach (Platinum/Gold/Silver)

Coach Brian Heaton begins his 4th consecutive season with the Makos.  He brings 21 years of club and high school coaching experience to the pool.  Coach Heaton swam as a club and high school swimmer in Indiana during the late 80's.  He began coaching at a YMCA at the age of 18 and later became the head high school coach at Terre Haute North Vigo High School in Terre Haute, IN.  Along with his high school coaching duties, he started the Terre Haute Torpedoes Swim Club in 1997.  He built this USA club to over 200 athletes and had several athletes qualify for USA Sectional meets, Junior Nationals, US Open and Senior National competition.  Coach Heaton has coached several High School All-Americans and seen his athletes move on to compete at the collegiate level.  He moved to Anderson, SC in 2007 and joined the Makos staff for four years helping to build a solid swimming foundaton at the Y.  After a brief sabbatical from coaching, he returned to the Makos in 2015 and has led the program to a Top 5 finish at the YMCA Upper Southeastern Regional as well as coaching six athletes to the YMCA National Championships.  Coach Heaton is a social studies teacher at McCants Middle School. He resides in Anderson with his wife Quincy and their daughter Kyle.   

Hannah Morgan

Coach Hannah begins her fourth year with the Makos.  She grew up swimming in the age group program in the Anderson Area for Anderson Swim Club.  She has been instrumental in building the developmental program over the last few years.  She is currently the coach of our Silver Team and Blue 1 swim group. 

Madison Wesley

Assistant Coach Bronze/Aquatics Director

Madison Wesley begins her second year with the Makos as a coach.  She is currently the Aquatics Director at the Anderson Area YMCA.  She has extensive experience in swimming instruction, water safety and public relations.  She will be coaching the Bronze group. She has also worked with the other age group levels during her time with the Makos.  She enjoys working with youth members in all capacity at the Y either through aquatics or through coaching youth soccer.  Madison also has a deep love of furry creatures and is known to take many stray or injured animals under her care.

Debra C Sanders

Debra joins the Yellow Group for her second Fall season with the team.  She has been a triathlete for the past nine years and has an avid love of swimming.  She developed a desire to help other athletes improve their swimming skills and recently attained her US Masters swimming certification.  Showing a genuine willingness to learn anything and everything about competitive swimming she joined us as an assistant last year.  In addtion to helping the Makos,  she served as head coach of the team at the Bell Family YMCA in Hartwell over the summer.

Adam Andrew McKenzie

Adam is a new assistant coach for the Makos as of January 2017. He began swimming summer league at age 11 in Durham, NC.  Over the next seven years, he competed at several Age Group Sectionals and Junior Nationals championships. 

Adam attended college at Georgia Institute of Technology where he earned a bachelors degree in Biomedical Engineering. In college he gained addiotional competitive experience as a varsity rower, and coaching experience as a men's rowing coach.

 Outside of coaching Adam works as an engineer for Electrolux and competes in local masters swim meets. 

Annette R Beard

Coach Annette brings a lifetime love of swimming and a wealth of knowledge to her athletes.  SHe has been a swimming instructor for nearly 20 years and continnues to do private lessons here at the Anderson YMCA.  She coached the developmental group with the Makos from 2005-2013 and has seen many of those athletes grow up and become successful competitors.  She rejoins the Makos this season, again working with our Blue 1 beginners.  She is currently a special needs assistant at Crecent High School and enjoys spending time with her 91 year old father as well as her daughter and grandkids.

Bethany L Lefeber

Assistant Coach (Blue 2/Silver)

Coach Bethany hails from Franklin, Wisconsin where she swam at the club and high school level.  She most recently competed at the colegiate level with Division III Rose Hulman Institute of Technology.  Coach Lefeber was a four year varsity letter winner and focused on distance free and butterfly.  While earning her degree, she also coached the developmental squad for a local USA club in Terre Haute, IN.  After having earned her degree in Biomechanical Engeering, she is currently an Engineering Graduate student at nearby Clemson University.  Coach Bethany hopes to instill a lifelong love of the sport of swimming!

Sarah Loew

Assistant Coach Strength & Conditioning

Sarah will be joining the Makos family this year as a Strength and Conditioning coach. She will be working with our Gold and Platinum groups during their Dryland time. She has a long history of swimming for her local Recreation and High School teams. For the last three years she has been the S & C coach for her old Recreation team. We look forward to having her join our team!
