Coaches & Directors

Allan brings a ton of experience to the Lake Area. Allan and Andy have been friends since the mid 80's, when Andy trained with his Senior group and eventually took his first age group coaching job. This started a long relationship of coaching together.  They worked side by side at Hargrave Military Academy until Andy moved back to Lake Charles. Allan eventually took a position as Head Coach and CEO at Yuma Heat in Arizona until he was called and talked into coming and taking the Aquatics Director job at SPAR and joing Andy as the Head Senior Coach. Since this time we have grown to become one of the premier teams in southwest Louisiana, serving Calcasieu, Cameron and Orange Texas.  Allan is well known around the country with some of the best coaches in the USA. He brings stability and expertise to our area. He has coached many Junior, Senior National and Olympic Qualifiers.

Andy came to Calcasieu Parish February of 1990. Andy was a four year All American and National NAIA National Champion for The University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire. He was the first paid head coach for a club style team in the Lake Area. The name of the team was McNeese State University Aquatics (MSUA). As a graduate Assistant at Mc Neese we found that the name was being interpreted as a college team so it was changed to Lake Area Pirates Swimming (LAPS). Andy recieved his masters at MSU and moved to coach at Hargrave Military Academy. After 3 years he returned to the Lake Area and started teaching at J.I. Watson Middle School. After 3 years he returned to coaching swimming for LAPS and Barbe High School. In 2004 he started his own team named Calcasieu Aquatics Swim Team (CAST). He moved his team from The Kirby Street YMCA to Sulphur Parks and Recreation's (SPAR) new 50 meter facility. The team changed names to Swim Louisiana. With the exit of our Senior coach and Director of Aquatics at SPAR and the hiring of Allan Andersen, the name of the team was switched to Spartan Swimmming.

We have come a long way since moving here in 1990. We had 8 high school swimmers. We now involve over 6 teams in the area. Andy is currently teaching elementary physical education at Moss Bluff Elementary and Head Coach at Sulphur High School.

Savannah comes to us via Andy's daughter. Savannah swam for University of West Florida. She moved back to Lake Charles to finish school at McNeese State University. Savannah is the only swimmer from Calcasieu to hold a high school state record in an individual event 100 backstroke.
