John became head coach of Nampa Swim Team, May of 2003. Developed swimmers to Senior Sectional Level, and one to Junior National Level. Three of Nampa's swimmers have continued on to swim Division I NCAA. He served as General Chairman of Snake River Swimming from 2006 to 2010. and was Snake River Coach of the Year 2006.
Before coming to Nampa, John coached Team Santa Monica from 1981 to 1997 where he developed two Senior National Qualifiers, and 25 Junior National Qualifiers. More than 15 of these qualifiers finaled at the national meets. John also helped push through the construction of a beautiful new 50 meter swimming complex before he retired from TSM.
From 1979 to 1981 John rebuilt SoCal Aquatics which had dwindled to 25 swimmers. Two years later the club was comprised of 150 swimmers with one of these finishing 3rd in the Junior National 400 I.M. in 1980.
He also built from scratch the Palisades-Malibu Y swim team beginning in 1967 resulting in 1 Olympic Trials qualifier, 3 Senior National Qualifiers with 1 scoring in 1976, plus 4 other Junior National qualifiers.
John began coaching club teams as an age-group coaching assistant to legendary Hall of Fame coach, Peter Daland, at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
Associate Head Coach
Coach Sam joined Nampa Swim Team in April 2017, bringing with
him a broad range of experience working with athletes from the
summer league to collegiate levels.
Most recently, Sam coached nearly 10 years (Oct. 2007- March
2017) in Northern Virginia with the Fort Belvoir Swim Team, serving
as the Assistant Head Coach. During his tenure with Fort Belvoir
Swim Team, Coach Sam helped lead the team to unprecedented growth,
from 90 swimmers to over 350 registered swimmers. The team also saw
much success in the water, athletes broke a total of 162 team
records (82 SCY records, 80 LCM records), while qualifying for
Regional, Sectional, NASA Jr. Nationals, NCSA Jr. Nationals and USA
Swimming Grand Prix meets.
Coach Sam graduated from San Diego State University with a
Bachelor's of Science Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in
physical education. Coach Sam's coaching career spans nearly 20
years, he has a passion for coaching and working with athletes as
well as a deep appreciation for the life skills sport teaches.
Coach Sam grew up swimming, surfing and playing water polo in
Southern California. When not on the pool deck, Coach Sam enjoys
being outdoors hiking, camping and backpacking in the mountains
with his wife and two sons.
