This is our Head Coach Alex Lerma, and Believe it or not he did not start swimming at a young age. He actually started swimming in his Junior Year of High School, and finished off his senior year as the Sharyland High School Swim Team Captain. Along with his short successful High School swimming carrier, he was also part of the Boy Scouts of America and holds the highest rank of Eagle Scout. He has multiple athletic hobbies which inlude; Crossfit, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and ofcourse Swimming. So you can surly cross off being in good shape. Coach Alex began his carrier as a coach with MSC after graduating from high school and has been with us for 7 Years. He has coached all the teams, and yes that includes; White, Red, Green, Black, Bronze and Senior. Working his way through the ranks of the different MSC teams he has taken all what he can to make swimmers the best they can be in and out of the water, with the highest appreciation to our previous Head Coach Roxanne Balducci for her great mentorship and help towards making Coach Alex one of the great coaches MSC has to offer.
Brad started swimming by following his older brother and sister into the sport. He completed his first year of High School Swimming in Elkhart Indiana with the same coach who has since become the Athletic Director of the High School -Ted Foland. He moved down to Brownsville Texas, which seemed much more laid back in swimming terms, and this is where he became a Blue Dolphin -a team that every year hosted an international swim meet. You have not seen cheering until you've seen over a dozen teams from Mexico demonstrate proper cheering at an outdoor meet across from the zoo in Brownsville. He swam with Larry Hodgson coaching in Brownsville for both Blue Dolphins, and St. Joseph Academy. Following High School, he headed to Texas Tech and trained with the team for a year as a red shirt. -and later worked with the Texas Tech Women's Swim Team for two years as a Team Manager. -Sadly Texas Tech cut swimming a year before he graduated in 1987. Then swam with H2O Swims in Houston for a while in 1988 and 1989.
Coach Altermeyer moved to Taiwan in August of 1990; he eventually started lap swimming in the mornings before other activities (studying Mandarin) -and soon he joined a local US Masters Swim Team. He competed in several masters meets while living there, and he returned to the USA in the summer of 1993.
Then, while lap swimming here in McAllen Texas- some MSC Parents recruited him into MSC as an assistant coach!
