Coach Jen grew up in Corpus Christi but has recently made San Antonio her new home. She began her swimming career at her local summer swim league team at the age of 9. She then progressed her career into club and high school swimming. While still in high school Jen began teaching swim lessons and helping coach her summer league team. She then moved on to college swimming where she swam at the University of the Incarnate Word. She graduated in May of 2013 with a degree in Biology and now works as a Children’s and Youth Minister at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit. Before joining the WAVE, she was the head coach of the Hunters Creek Lone Star summer league swim team. This will be Jen’s second season with the San Antonio WAVE and will be working with Bronze, Silver, and Gold groups at UTSA. She looks forward to having another great season with the WAVE!
AHHS ~ Freshman 1, 2 & 3

Coach Kelly is in her 4th season with the Wave.
She grew up near Erie, PA, but calls home wherever the
Air Force sends them. She began competitive
swimming when she was 8 years old with the YMCA. Kelly has a BA in
Elementary Ed, from Grove City College, where she swam
competitively for four years. She began teaching swim lessons
in her early teens and developed a love for stroke technique
through years of attending and working at swim camps. She had
exceptional examples in coaches who taught, encouraged, and fueled
her desire to coach. Kelly has coached 10 &
under age groups for Chartiers Valley Swim Club in Pittsburgh PA,
Eifel Sharks and Elmendorf Penguins at overseas Air Force bases.
She is very excited to work with the Freshman
2/3 & Junior groups to encourage all these
young swimmers to enjoy their sport and take it as far as they

Marks led Churchill High School to nine UIL state swimming and
diving championships in 31 years as head coach. During his
tenure the Chargers won girls state championships in three
different decades, 1984, 1999, 2005, and boys state championships
in three different decades, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 2000 and
coached 16 different individual state champions and 118 different
N.I.S.C.A. All-Americans. His motivational techniques and
emphasis on goal-setting contributed to the development of
Olympians Josh Davis, Jimmy Feigen, and Kim Pavlin. In his
eight seasons as the Pre-Nationals coach, Coach Marks has
produced 33 first time Sectional qualifiers. His
practices include an emphasis on streamlining, variety, daily
challenges and proper technique.
SVHS ~ Freshman & Junior Groups
Coach Shea is a freshmen at San Antonio College. She is studying
Biology and wants to be a pediatric surgeon. Shea loves working
with kids. She strives to make everyone she coaches to become
a stronger swimmer, student and person. Shea has been a
lifeguard and is going into her 4th year of coaching and teaching
Coach Shea brings experience, energy and enthusiasm to the pool
deck daily. She looks forward to helping her swimmers develop
throughout the season. Coach Shea can't wait to see her
swimmers' passion and love of swimming grow while they swim for The
UTSA ~ Junior 2
Coach Sophie has been swimming since age 11. She started out swimming summer-league, swam for her middle school and eventually made the JV team at Klein Collins High School in Spring, TX. She started swimming club at Spring Swim Team in 2012 and made the Varsity team as a sophomore and swam Varsity until she graduated in 2015. Coach Sophie’s favorite events are the 200 Free, 50 free, and 400 free relay.
UTSA ~ Freshman 1
Michelle (Shellie) Bergo comes to the WAVE as a military spouse and has lived in the San Antonio area for a little over a year. As a past swimmer and diver when she was young she started coaching after 20 years as a neonatal intensive care nurse due to one of her husbands deployments. WIth 2 daughters in the pool everyday as swimmers it seemed like a great choice. Over the past 12 years she has coached in Alabama, Georgia, Nevada and Florida. Shellie loves coaching the younger, more novice swimmers taking them from "being able to swim a 25 freestyle to that first IM". She stated that it is so rewarding and loves the sense of accomplishment seen in each swimmer as they gain more skill and confidence.
Coach Yetzia is originally from Southern California. She began
swimming competitively since the age of 8 with her first swim team
in Covina, CA. She continued swimming with her next club swim team
in Riverside, CA that transitioned her into the High School swim.
She started off in Varsity swim and stayed there all 4 years. Her
favorite events are the 500 swim, 100 Breast stroke, and the 200
relay race. Throughout her high school athletics she also played 3
years of varsity water polo, and 3 years of varsity cross county.
Prior to SA Wave, Coach Yetzia started off as an age group coach
for CCCC swim team in Riverside, CA and eventually became Aquatics
Director and Head Coach of the swim team. She also was a life guard
for The City of Riverside for 5 Years. Coach Yetzia is currently
attending North West Vista and will transfer to UTSA and major in
Marine Biology in hopes to one day opening and/or working for a
rehabilitation center specializing in marine wild life along the
