Sara Massa

Head Coach


Sara Massa has served as the Head Coach of CCAT since 1992, and is a current member of ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association). She is also the Head Coach of the Choate Rosemary Hall Men's and Women's Swim Teams as well as the Aquatic Director at Choate. A former competitive swimmer, Sara was a 1968 Olympic Trial qualifier in the 100 and 200 meter butterfly. She also was a Senior National finalist, National Age Group record holder, and represented the USA on an international team. Since the beginning of Sara's tenure as Head coach, the CCAT team has had qualifiers for Olympic Trials, US Opens, Senior Nationals, Junior Nationals, Sectional meets, and Eastern Zones. Sara has also coached numerous CT Senior/Age Group Championship qualifiers, record holders, and champions. She served on the CT Swimming Inc. BOD from 2000-2002. Sara was awarded the CT Swimming ASCA award for "Age Group Coach of the Year "in 1995. In addition she was selected as the Head Coach for the CT All-Star Select Camp held at the Olympic Training Center, Colorado Springs in 2001. Sara was appointed in 2003 to the USA Swimming Northeast Regional Summit Task, along with several college coaches to assist USA Swimming in the development/retention of female Head Coaches. She was the CT Junior and CT Senior Coaches Representative (1998-2000), Head Coach of Eastern Zone teams (1996, 1997), Head Coach of CT Senior all-star Racing camps (1994, 1995), and was Head Coach of CT All-star Age Group Racing camps (1992, 1993, and 1994). She coached Olympic Trial qualifiers (1992, 1996, 2004 and 2008). Sara is also the Varsity Coach at Choate Rosemary Hall located in Wallingford, CT. Graduating from Dickinson College in 1975 Sara holds a B.A. in Psychology, Art History and Russian Literature.

Keith Cargan

Assistant Head Coach


Keith is a 1998 graduate of Norwich University where he was a 4-year varsity athlete, and 2-time swim team captain. Keith held several school records in sprint freestyle events and was an academic All-American.

Beginning in 1998, Keith has coached on the high school (Daniel Hand and Mark T. Sheehan), college (Wesleyan University), age group (Wallingford and Meriden YMCA), and masters level (CCAT Masters). As head coach of the Wallingford YMCA, he helped guide the team to two top-twenty finishes at the New England YMCA Championships. Keith is also an ASCA level 2, USA Swimming certified coach, and Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor.

In his free time, Keith enjoys training for marathons and occasional triathlons.  He recently finished running a marathon in each New England state and has plans to finish all thirteen original colonies.
