Doug Fonder - Head Coach
The overall Program direction for all locations and groups are under the direction of Head Coach, Doug Fonder, whose credentials include: International Trip List Coach, National YMCA Coach of the Year, Coaching of Olympians, Olympic Trial Qualifiers, World Ranked Swimmers, Senior National Finalists, Olympic Sports Festival Winners, Junior National and YMCA National Champions and countless nationally ranked age group swimmers
Kathy Fonder - Assistant Senior Coach
Kathy Fonder, as Co-Head Gator Senior Group Coach, is responsible for helping with the overall direction of the Gator Senior Group Program. Over her 15 years of coaching experience, Kathy has been accredited with developing numerous National Top 10 Age Group swimmers. Besides working with the overall direction of the Age Group Program, she is responsible for a portion of our elite Gold Group. Swimmers in this group are preparing to become future senior swimmers. The improvement of a child's self image through emphasis on sportsmanship, strength training, nutritional values, continuation of endurance training, goal setting and required practice attendance are major priorities within this group.
Brett Fonder - Head Age Group Coach Gold
Fonder is an established coach with the Virginia
Gators. Brett has had an illustrious career as a Gator,
himself. He swam 12 years for the program, set numerous
team and state records and was a member of Y National Championship
Relays. Along with his Gator swimming, Brett was Captain of
Cave Spring High School’s swim team, which won back-to-back
state AAA championships - the only time a team, other
than Northern Virginia has ever won a state
title. After his High School graduation, Brett was
awarded a swimming scholarship and attended West
Virginia University. Brett’s experience of over 20 years
connected to the RVAA summer program should pay dividends
to the Gator program.
Michael Williams - Assistant Senior and Assistant Age Group
Graduating from Middle Creek High School, Michael Williams began his career at the University of North Carolina – Wilmington in 2009. At UNCW Michael was a two time captain as well as an All Conference and NCAA-B qualifying swimmer. After graduating with his BS in Exercise Science in 2013, Michael spent the 2013-14 season coaching the UNCW varsity swim team as well as the attached HAWK Masters swim team. During the 2014-15 season Michael made the move up to Raleigh to be a Volunteer Assistant Coach for North Carolina State University as well as coach for the Marlins of Raleigh club team. After his tenure at NCSU Michael became the Head Coach of Cape Fear Aquatic Club where he tripled the program in size and assisted in the programs first National level qualifiers in over eight years. After working with both beginner and elite level athletes Michael is excited about the opportunity to make a serious impact here at the Virginia Gators!
Kyndal Terrell - Mighty Gators Coach
Kyndal Terrell is in her 5th year as a coach for the Virginia Gators; she is an eight and under coach with a primary focus on developing the skills for emerging competition level swimmers. Kyndal is a graduate of William Byrd High School and Radford University where she received her B.A. in Elementary Education. Kyndal's swimming career begin with the Virginia Gators program where she swam through high school; she was also a member of the inaugural William Byrd High School team. After high school Kyndal continued her swimming career in college where she competed for four years at Radford University. In addition to coaching, Kyndal is in her 11th year of teaching in Roanoke County; currently as a first grade teacher at Green Valley Elementary. Kyndal and her husband Michael reside in Vinton with their three girls, Hadyn, Collyns and Londyn; all of whom swim for the Gators.
