Coach Dean Koch comes to DFAC swimming with a wealth of swimming and coaching experience.  His most recent coaching experience was for the Saint Charles Swim Team (SCST) located in St. Charles Illinois.  SCST is a 350 member team that is continually ranked one of the top 2 teams in Illinois.  His positions with SCST included Lead Coach for the Senior 1 training group, assistant coach for the National and Senior 2 training groups, as well as the Lead Coach for the SCST Non Competitive Swim Team.

Dean’s coaching career began back in High School where he was an Assistant Coach for the Sauk Prairie Pool Sharks (summer league team), where he eventually became Head Coach.  He has held several coaching positions with different clubs as well as high school teams.  Coach Dean has coached all levels of swimmers from Beginners to National qualifiers.  He was also very active on SCST Board of Directors and acted as the Treasurer for four years as well as running the administrative and operation functions of the club.

Coach Dean’s passion for swimming began when he started competing for the Sauk Prairie Pool Sharks at age 5 and continued on at the Sauk Prairie High School where he was a 4 year letter winner, school record holder, multiple Conference Champion and a Small School State Champion.  He went on to swim for the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee where he was a four year letter winner, school record holder, national qualifier and a 5 time honorable mention All-American.

Coach Dean is married and has two daughters who are also very active in swimming and swim coaching.  He moved back to the Madison area the summer of 2015 and is very happy to be back home.

Matt D Engelhardt

Welcome Coach Matt to DFAC Swimming!  Matt started his swimming career with DFAC where he swam for 10 years, and was a multi-time State, Speedo Sectionals and Zones qualifier. He also swam for the DeForest High School Boys’ swim team, where he was a 3-time state qualifier and earned all-state honors in the 100 Backstroke. Matt went on to compete for the UW-Oshkosh swim and dive team for 3 seasons where he was a part of school record setting 200 and 400 Freestyle, and 400 Medley relay teams for the Titans, and was elected as WIAC swimmer of the week.  Prior to joining DFAC, Matt was an assistant coach for 1 year with the Wausau Tide Swim Club and head coach for the Horrace Mann Middle School girls’ swim team in Wausau, WI.  In his free time, Matt enjoys biking, camping, and reading. He is very excited to be part of the DFAC coaching staff, and to be involved with the team that created his intense passion for the sport of swimming.

Cindy A Mitchell-Potter

Assistant Coach

I have been a coach with DFAC since 2003, where I have been fortunate to coach at every age and group level. Currently, I am the Lead Coach of the AG Gold group.  I was born in Upper Michigan, (yup, I am a Yooper), and have always been involved with swimming, starting as a summer youth camp waterfront director, swimming instructor and lifeguard.  I swam club, high school and one year of college.  After graduating from the University of Dubuque, I taught fifth grade in Clinton, Iowa.  We moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota, and I obtained my graduate degree from Minnesota State University, where I worked as a clinical psychologist and a technical college instructor before moving to the Deforest-Windsor area.

You have probably seen my husband, Rick, on deck officiating at meets.  He has been active on the DFAC Board and LSC Board and Official’s Committee.  We have one son, Nicholas.  He began swimming at age six with DFAC, and he signed to swim on scholarship at Miami University.  I love to read and enjoy all water sports, including swimming, boating and scuba diving with my family.

Andrea Weinstock

Assistant Coach

Kalie Beth Koch

Assistant Coach

Kalie is super excited to be part of our DFAC family. She began her swimming career when she was in 6th grade swimming for the St. Charles Swim Team in Illinois. As part of the ST. Charles Swim Team she qualified for Regionals and was a finalist in the mile (4th place) and 1000 Free (7th place).  She then was a four-year varsity letter winner, IHSA Upstate Eight Academic All-Conference winner for 3 years, and varsity captain her Senior year at St. Charles High School.

When Kalie was a sophomore in high school she started lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons both as a group lesson or a private lesson. As a swim lessons instructor Kalie has worked with all ages from preschool to college level, and all abilities from beginner to experience.

Kalie started coaching during her sophomore year of high school. She started as a volunteer coach for a Special Olympic Swim Team (Fox Valley Special Recreation Association) and learned new ways of teaching each stroke for all abilities so everyone can understand. She coached for this team for three years. During her Junior year of high school, she started to coach for the ST. Charles Swim Team: non-competitive branch as an assistant coach to Coach Dean. Here she Coached for 2 years both the 8 and under team and the 9 and up team.

As well as coaching of DFAC, Kalie is currently attending UW Madison. Her major is in Elementary Education with hopes of going into graduate school for Secondary Education (she can’t decide who she wants to teach yet). But her dream growing up was to become a History Teacher and also a Swim Coach. You may also see her at the YMCA in Sun Prairie lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons.

Claire Wittkowski

Assistant Coach

Hello all! My name is Claire and I am very excited to begin coaching for DFAC. I began competitive swimming at the age of 9 for the East Grand Rapids Waves Aquatics Club in Grand Rapids, MI. I went on to swim and play water polo in high school and then continued my swim career at Albion College. At Albion my main events were the 100 and 200 breaststroke as well as the 1650 freestyle. I first started coaching in 2014 for ages 8-14 at a summer camp in New Hampshire in between the school year. My senior year of college I helped the assistant coach create volunteer days each month for our team to teach stroke technique to the local swim club. During these volunteer days was where I realized I wanted to become and full time coach. After I graduated college I moved to Chicago to teach swim lessons and coach a group of competitive swimmers ranging from beginner to triathletes. I swam with a local Masters group and still swim open water races in my free time. Now I am in Madison and excited to start off the season with DFAC!”
