My Coaching Philosophy:
When it comes to swimming, I believe that it is very important for the swimmers to have fun being on a swim team while learning how to correctly swim at a competitive level. It is important for a person to enjoy swimming. Participating in a sport involves an equal balance of fun and learning. As a coach I love seeing the progress being made in each swimmer’s skill level. I enjoy learning just as much from the swimmers as they do from me, if not more. As a coach, I feel that it is my job for the athletes to achieve the goals each swimmer sets for their season. If a swimmer wants to work out, get in shape, and learn how to properly swim than that is what I’m going to focus on with that particular swimmer. If there is a swimmer who wants to swim in every meet, set goals for becoming faster and making state, that is what we are going to focus on.
College: I graduated from UW Oshkosh with a Bachelors of Social Work in 2011. Currently I work with Lutheran Social Services at a day center for adults with mental illness.
My Background with Swimming: This is my fourth season coaching for STAR. Although I have only been coaching for a short time, I have been swimming my entire life. This includes lifeguarding since I was sixteen, and teaching swim lessons since I was nineteen. When I was in fourth grade I started competitively swimming with STAR. I swam for all four years of high school, and went on to swim a short time in college. This is where I found that my passion for the sport was no longer swimming, but it was giving back by coaching.
I would like to take a quick minute to thank all the parents of the swimmers I have had the privilege of coaching. Typically you will find me coaching the younger swimmers. This is a very exciting time for me, as I am able to educate swimmers on the ability to have fun while working hard on a team. There has always been an desire to learn with all the athletes I have coached. Thank you for letting me be a part of this team, and I look forward to being able to coach your swimmer in the future!
