With The Storm:
Coach Michael White became the first full-time head coach of the Sun Prairie Storm Swim Team in August of 2014. Since joining the team, the number of swimmers on the club has grown from 100 to over 240, making SPS the second largest team in the Madison area. The team has gone from 68th in Wisconsin in 2013 to the top 15, culminating with an 11th place finish in the 2017 12-U Short Course State Championships, a 2x combined runner up at the Open Water State Championship, and a boys state championship at the 2017 Open Water State Championship meet.
The coaching staff for the team has doubled and Sun Prairie Storm became a USA Level 2 Club in 2015. In 2015, Michael was voted onto the 2015 Wisconsin Zone Team coaching staff, where he was the lead coach for the 10-under boys group. In 2016, Coach White coached the Wisconsin Open Water Zone Team. In 2017, he was elected the Age Group Chair of Wisconsin Swimming and was a nominee for Long Course Coach of the Year.
Prior to Sun Prairie:
Razorback Aquatic Club AquaHawgs (Head Age Group Coach, 2012-2014)
Before moving to Wisconsin, Michael spent two successful years as the Head Age Group Coach and Masters Coach for the Razorback Aquatic Club AquaHawgs in Springdale, Arkansas. There he was named the 2014 Arkansas Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year. His swimmers have broke team, state, and LSC records and placed in the top 10 in the nation for their age. Several of his swimmers have qualified for the Central Zone Age Group Championships and Speedo Sectional Championships and several earned NCSA Junior National & USA Swimming Futures cuts. During this time, the AquaHawgs saw their greatest national rank, #287 among all teams in the United States. In addition, the club went from USA Level 2 recognition to USA Level 3. Michael was a member of the 2013 Arkansas Zone Team coaching staff (Topeka, KS).
Huntington Y Charleston Aquatic Team (2010-2012)
Prior to coaching the AquaHawgs, Michael was the head coach for the HYCAT program in Huntington, West Virginia (2010-2012) where he earned the 2012 West Virginia Age Group Coach of the Year Award. During this time, the team doubled in size and had regional, zone, and YMCA National qualifiers. HYCAT of Huntington produced several Southern Zone swimmers during his two years at the helm and HYCAT won 4 state championships during his time there. Michael was the 2012 Southern Zone Team Head Coach (Rockwall, TX), the 2012 West Virginia Open Water Select Camp Head Coach, and an assistant coach for the 2011 Southern Zone Team (Cary, NC)
John Marshall High School Monarchs (2005-2010)
Michael’s first major coaching duties were at John Marshall High School, in Glen Dale, West Virginia. Following graduation from college, he took over his alma mater and grew the program from a 3-9 men’s team to a Ohio Valley Athletic Conference runner up, West Virginia Region 1 Champion, and top 10 state team. Michael coached multiple conference event champions, 9 state championship finalists, and his swimmers broke several team records.
Michael was a competitive swimmer for 7 years and was a YMCA Zone Qualifier, a 3x West Virginia State Qualifier, 4x varsity letterwinner, and the captain of his high school swim team.
Coach White has a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (2005, Marshall University). He is ASCA Level 3 educated. In 2014 he co-authored a study with the University of Arkansas on fluid balance in adolescent swimmers that was published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. Michael has spent time working as a counselor for the Salo Swim Camp at the University of Southern California (2014 and 2015) and the Wheeling Jesuit University Swim Camp (2011).
In his free time, Michael plays golf and visits the dog park with his dog, Kasio. He's a big sports fan, from basketball to soccer to hockey to football, and loves to attend live events.
