Jenna M Purkey

Head Coach

Jenna came to COM as the Head Age Group Coach in August 2011. Before joining COM, she was the head coach of Abilene Tidal Wave for 5 yrs. During her time as a coach, Jenna has helped athletes of all ages reach TAGS, Sectionals, and Junior Nationals. Jenna was also the Head Swim and Dive Coach for Wylie High School during the 2010-2011 school year. At Wylie, she had a state finalist in both swimming and diving. Jenna is also a level 3 ASCA Coach.

Jenna grew up swimming and performed very well through her high school years as a TAGS and state qualifier.

Jenna has been married to Jonathan Purkey since 2006 and has 1 son- Jason Dean. They live in Midland with their two black labs, Lucy and Sadie.

Mike A Anzano

Assistant Head Coach

Mike has been at COM for 4 years and has primarily been a part of the 12 and under age group program. He graduated from UTPB with a degree in Math in 2013.
Prior to his coaching career, Mike swam for 4 years at Parkland High in his hometown of El Paso, TX. He was a 4A State qualifier in 2008 and 2009, which was the first from his school. In club swimming, he was a Sectional level swimmer for the Desert Shark Swim Club. He continued his swimming career into college as a member of the Falcon Swim Team while attending UTPB. During his 4 years with the Falcons, he received All-Conference academic honors and had the highest GPA on the men's swim team in 2012.
Mike is now married to Aubrei Anzano and they live in Midland with their dog Leia Organa Anzano.

Lead Developmental/Dolphin Coach
Coach Luke joined our coaching staff after coaching for Odessa Aquatic Club for nine years. Luke is a Pecos, Texas native where he swam for Pecos Aquatic Club and Pecos High School. Coach Luke went on to graduate from The University of Texas of The Permian Basin with a Bachelors of Arts in History with a minor in Kinesiology. Coach Luke strives to inspire young athletes to overcome adveristy through hardwork, discipline, and perseverence. 

Steve Flato

Coach Flato has been involved in the sport of swimming since 1968.  He grew up swimming in El Paso for the El Paso YMCA, which later became El Paso Aqua Posse.  Coach Flato experienced many successes as a swimmer, ranging from high school state qualifier to being a member of the NAIA National Championship winning team at Drury University in 1981.  
Flato has been a teacher of Phsyical Education for over 30 years and has been select as Who's Who Among American Teachers four times.  He is an inductee to the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame and has coached 63 All State First Team athletes.  
Coach Flato is recently married to Veronica and has been in Midland since August of 2017.

Junior/ Pre-Senior Coach

Kyle started coaching for COM in February 2013. Kyle came from Ft. Myers, FL where he attended North Ft. Myers High School and graduated in 2011. While in high school he was captain of the swim team from 2008-2011, and a three time Florida High School State Qualifier from 2008-2011 and team MVP from 2009-2011. He is a Sectionals Qualifier as well as an Open Water National Qualifier.Kyle currently swims for UTPB and studies petroleum engineering.

Junior 1 Coach

Michael joined COM in 2012 and has mainly coach developmental swimmers during his time on the team. Prior to his coachinng career, he swam for a club team in Odessa when he was 8 and later joinend his Junior High Team & broke the 100 Backstroke and 100 Freestyle records. As he progressed in his schooling and swimming carrer, Michael joined his high school varsity swim team where he swam for 4 years representing Permian High School until 2011. 

Sarah E Butler

Developmental 2 11+ Lead Coach
Coach Sarah joined the coaching staff at COM in March of 2016 as an assistant to various Developmental, Dolphin, and Junior groups. Prior to coaching, she grew up in Midland and started swimming for COM as a second grader. Sarah has represented her team as a TAGS finalist in the 200 Butterfly and also as a Regional and Zones Qualifier during multiple seasons throughout her swimming career at COM. In addition to these accomplishments, she also represented her high school team, Trinity School of Midland, as a TAPPS first place finalist and previous record holder in the 100 Butterfly. Sarah graduated from Trinity in 2005 and later attended the University of Incarnate Word, where she was a member of the Lady Cardinals Swim Team.
In December 2018, Sarah graduated from the University of Texas of the Permain Basin with her Bachelors degree in Sociology. In addition to coaching, Sarah works full time for Endeavor Energy as an Engineering Technician. Sarah is married to her loving husband Bruce Butler and a mother to her whole life twelve-year-old Caleb Maurer.

Coach Austin competed as an athlete for COM for 7 years, and 4 years for his High School Program for Midland Lee. Austin is excited to work with swimmers ans help them develop the self confidence while havingn fun learning competitve skills necessary to be succesful in Swimming. 

Andy P Laegeler

Dolphin 1
Andy is a new swim coach at COM in 2018.  He grew up in Decatur, IL, playing competitive golf, attending the Missouri University of Science & Technology on a golf scholarship.  After his undergraduate, he studied pharmacy at the University of Houston and is currently a pharmacist at Midland Memorial Hospital.  Andy took up triathlons after golf and has now completed 4 Ironmans, and numerous sprint, Olympic and 70.3 events as well.  He is an Ironman Certified Coach, sharing his love for the sport by teaching others how to swim, bike and run.  His two boys compete on the COM swim team, and he developed a passion for teaching swimming to kids while living overseas in Indonesia for his wife’s job with Chevron, where he coached the swim team.
