Gold & Silver Lead Group Coach: Amber Johnson

Hello! My name is Amber Johnson, and I am thrilled to be a coach with the Ducks Swim Team. The Geneva Lakes Y has a great pool and a wonderful facility that can be used to develop swimmers of all abilities. I've had the privledge to coach the team's Sectional, State, & National team members as well as our Lake Geneva Masters Swim Team.

Swimming has been a part of my life since I was six years old. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana where I swam for Fort Wayne Aquatics, under coaches Dave & Jennifer Gibson. In college, I attended Western Illinois University, where I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Education, while minoring in Psychology and Coaching. At Western, I swam all 4 years, achieved 2nd Team All-Conference in '06 & '09, broke several top ten times in distance freestyle events, and was a co-captain during my senior year.

After going into teaching high school English in Central Illinois for 2 years, I realized my heart was leaning towards coaching full time. Since college, I have been an assistant coach with the Macomb High School boys and girls swim teams. From there, I coached the YDOCS swim club out of Peoria, Illinois, where I mostly worked with new and novice swimmers, introducing them to more technique and endurance. Most recently, I was with the Blue Devils Swim Club out of Gurnee, Illinois. I had the opportunity to work with all of the swimming groups- including Illinois Age Group State Qualifers.

In addition to swimming, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Zack, who is a Master's Swim Team member, our son Henry and our goofy Basset Hound, Elmur.

Bronze Group Coach: Jennifer Kramp

Hi! My name is Jennifer Kramp. My swimmers call me Coach Jen.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve the Geneva Lakes YMCA Ducks Swim Team as an assistant coach.  I have been involved in the sport of competitive swimming for nearly 30 years years as an athlete (on an age-group club, in high school, in college & on master's teams) and as a coach.  Swimming is an incredible sport!  Besides giving kids the chance to build confidence and achieve their personal best, competitive swimming teaches important life lessons like goal setting, team work, self-discipline, good sportsmanship, and time management.  Plus, it’s a sport you can do throughout your whole life.

The Geneva Lakes Family YMCA has a beautiful aquatic facility for training, and our swim team has a dedicated, talented, fun and friendly group of swimmers, parents and supporters.  It’s the perfect, winning combination!  I feel very blessed to be a part of it. Go Ducks!

Silver Group Coach: Krystal Suchowski

Hi I’m Krystal Suchowski I’m so excited to be a part of the Lake Geneva Ducks Swim Team family! I live in the Twin Lakes area, with my husband David and our rescue dog Delanie. I started working as a swim Instructor at a different YMCA and now am excited to be an assistant coach for the YMCA swim club in Lake Geneva. I’ve been in the water all my life, my mom always said that I could swim before I walked; it’s a great sport for the whole family to enjoy whether it is in competition, at a water park, or just floating on the lake. I am also very proud to say I’m a black belt in martial arts and am a national, JR. Olympic, and world champion. I love to be outdoors fishing, hunting, and kayaking. I am also a Certified Nursing Assistant where I studied the principals of being able to assist a registered nurse in being able to give someone the best quality of life possible through out their sickness. I have a passion for working with children and adults who have disabilities whether it is with swimming, school work, or just a friend to lean on. Through my working with Ducks swimmers I hope to help them grow not only swimmers but also as respectful young adults.

Dryland Training Coach: Dawn Weinfurtner, Certified Personal Trainer

I am thrilled to be the Land Training Coach for the YMCA Ducks Swim Team in Lake Geneva! The team provides a terrific opportunity for swimmers of all ages and abilities. The vibe on deck is always one of positivity and “can-do”. Because the coaches cultivate an amazing atmosphere, there are many benefits that are reflected in the swimmers. I am constantly impressed with their manners, their respect for their peers, parents & coaches, and their eagerness to learn and improve.
My involvement at the Y began several years ago as a member. Our family of four uses the Y for everything: classes, fitness center, Youth Activities, swim lessons, swim team ..... it would seem we’ve done it all! My husband Corey (25 Years) is a Chiropractor,  thus health and wellness have always been important to us. The Y has been a perfect fit for us and our children Owen (12 Years) and Erynn (10 Years, GYST swimmer).
After almost 25 years in a career in Commercial Print and Trade Publishing doing marketing, communications and sales, I embarked my “second career” in 2015 with a license in Zumba Gold. I chose this particular Zumba format because of my enjoyment in working with Seniors. Additional licenses and certifications followed on a regular basis (see below), culminating in the ability to work at our YMCA teaching a variety of Group Exercise classes and conducting Personal Training sessions. I teach and train all ages and abilities with special emphasis on Seniors, Special Needs and Kids.
This past Fall (2017) I began Dryland Training with the Jr. & Sr. level swimmers. Our focus in these sessions is: strength, coordination, balance, form, endurance, injury prevention and mental focus. If you have a swimmer at this level, have them give it a try! (Don’t tell them, but we manage to add a bit of fun in every session!)
The best part about my job is seeing my students’ expressions transform from one of uncertainty to one of determination and confidence. I am so fortunate to see this occur morning, noon and night. The Y is a true blessing in my daily life.
Certifications: Personal Training, Group Exercise, Aquatic Exercise, Core Training Specialist, Yoga 1.
Licenses: Zumba, ZumbaGold, Zumba Kids, Aqua Zumba, STRONG by Zumba (HIIT-based workout)
