Preliminary Swims (prelims) are events that are open to all swimmers of the South Jeffco Swim League. A swimmer must have participated in 2 meets during the dual meet season to be able to swim in prelims. (CSSCSA/SJSL bylaw rule) The prelims will occur before the championship meet. They are to determine who will swim at the championship meet. SJSL does not have qualification times for our championship meet (as does the KC Invite and State).
Prelims swims will allow all swimmers from each team to swim up to 3 individual events. Coaches and swimmers may work together to determine what events a swimmer will swim at prelims. Any swimmer may qualify for the championship if their time places them in the top 16. There are no exhibition swims.
Each team from SJSL will only be allowed a maximum of 4 swimmers in the top 16 at the Championship meet on Saturday. If a team has more than 4 swimmers in the top 16, alternates from other teams will be placed in the top 16.
Relays: Relays will not be part of the prelims but will occur on Saturday at the Championships. Each coach will determine the relay members. A relay member does not have to have swam at the prelims to be in a relay but must be part of the team and have swam in at least 2 dual meets. Each team may only enter 2 relays per age group/event for the championship.
6 and Under novice events: 19A/20A: 6 and Under 25m Freestyle; 39A/40A: 6 and under 25m Backstroke-- This event will take place on Tuesday July 16. It is a non-judged event and not recognized by the CSSCSA (state swimming governing board). The two events are 25 m Freestyle and 25 M Backstroke. It will not be at the championships on Saturday July 20. Any swimmer aged 6 and under may swim both of these events but if the swimmer is wanting to be considered to swim the event on Saturday at the championship meet, the swimmer must swim with the 8 and under events.
Last Chance Swims: At times there are swimmers who are very close to state qualifying times. A swimmer must qualify by time for CSSCSA state meet at the end of July. If a swimmer misses a state time in an event that he/she swam at prelims AND is not in the top 16, AND is very close to state qualifying time, the swimmer (determined by the coach) may try one last time to get a qualifying state time. This swim would occur at the end of the prelims.
