Awards Picnic and Float Night
Tuesday, July 16th
Picnic at Wheeler Park: 6:30 - 8:00 pm
Float Night at Sunset Pool 8:00-10:00 pm
It's hard to believe that the summer swim season is already over. Where does the time go? One of the things that marks the end of a swim season for the Geneva River Rats is the Awards Picnic. We have this every year on the Tuesday immediately after Conference, at Wheeler Park. (Near the mini golf off of Route 31). This year is no exception. This is a time where we celebrate the accomplishments of all our swimmers during the season. Every year, the Coaches get together and decide on awards. Awards are given to 3 girls and 3 boys in every age group. The categories for the awards are Hardest Worker, Most Improved and MVP. Obviously, this is a difficult decision, as not everyone can get an award. Awards are based on the performance of swimmers during the entire summer swim season. Additionally, we give a special award to one swimmer that has displayed what it means to be a Geneva River Rat. This is an award that is dear to the coaching staff’s heart, and will be explained at the picnic. But, the award giving doesn't stop there. Every year we also give a monetary scholarship to all those longtime outgoing senior swimmers who will be leaving us and going off to college or a career.
The official start of the evening is 6:30 pm. However, we encourage all our families to pack a picnic basket, or drive through Portillo's or Jimmy John's, and come a little bit early to eat dinner and let the kids blow off some steam running around the playground area. We will also take this time to pass out participation certificates, and swim-a-thon prizes to anyone who still needs to pick theirs up.
Another thing we will be doing this year, immediately after our picnic, is Float Night. Float night is an opportunity to have the Sunset Pool completely to ourselves for an evening, slides and all. The night begins after the picnic, sometime between 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. We will also be having ice cream during this time. You are welcome to invite family and a few friends. However, please don't invite your entire neighborhood, we don't have enough room in our freezers to store that much ice cream!
So grab your picnic gear, your suits and your floaties, pray for great weather and come on out and join us for a night of fun.
If you have any questions regarding this or anything else, please do not hesitate to contact Coach Chris.
