Course Requirements: None. There are no prerequisites. All coaches are welcome. ASCA Membership is not required.

Friday, October 4 from 6 – 9 PM: Starts, Turns, and Finishes. Classroom presentation with dozens of video clips showing novice swimmers to Olympians doing various skills and drills. The emphasis is on teaching progressions.

Saturday, October 5 from 8 – 3, with a 45 minute lunch break: ASCA Level 2 Stroke School. Classroom presentation packed with video clips; basic principles of biomechanics followed by principles of teaching; then for each stroke: looking at the Olympians first followed by basic fundamentals, teaching techniques, and progressions. Extensive use of video of real world developmental swimmers doing drills and progressions. Participants receive the ASCA Level 2 Manual and test.

Saturday, October 5 from 3:30 to 5:00: How to Write a Season Training Lesson Plan and related individual workouts for novice/developmental swimmers. From a blank piece of paper to detailed workouts: how to create a goal oriented lesson plan designed to move swimmers to greater workout ability and higher competitive achievements.

Sunday, October 6 from 9 am to noon: How to Write a Season Training Plan and Workouts for Age Group Swimmers, followed by the same for Senior Swimmers. A goal based, systematic approach to writing workouts with purpose. How to have your swimmers get better by plan, rather than by wishful thinking. Handouts will be available for download to all pre-registered coaches.

Course Instructor: Guy Edson, ASCA Level 5 Age Group Coach. Guy was a successful full time club and high school swimming coach for 15 years producing many nationally ranked age group swimmers as well as club state championship teams in 3 states. He joined the staff at ASCA in 1988 with the purpose of helping other age group coaches. He has continued to coach primarily developmental age group swimmers over the past 30 years and through his experiences has developed highly effective teaching techniques, progressions, and drills that he loves to share with all coaches.
