Description - This the 2nd meet in the series of Michigan Swimming Championship Meets. This is the second end of season championship meet for the Gators. The Junior Olympic Championship Meet is for swimmers that have achieved Junior Olympic (JO) or Q2 qualifying times. This is the last chance for swimmers to achieve a State qualifying time. Swimmers should be competing in each event that they have a JO cut for. Swimmers cannot compete in any event they have a State time in. Please see the age up exception section below if your child ages up to the next age group in between the JO and State Meet. If you have any questions, please consult your group coach.

Meet Format – All events are timed finals. Friday’s events are for all ages. All 10 & Under and 11-12 age groups will swim in the AM sessions. All 13-18 age groups will swim in the PM sessions. Relays are offered. The 13-18 Age group events will be swum together but split into 13-14 and 15-18 age groups for awards. All events will be swum slowest to fastest except for the 400 IM, 500 Freestyle, 1000 Freestyle, and the 1650 Freestyle which will be swum fastest to slowest and alternating genders female/male.

Time Standards: To enter an event, the swimmer’s fastest time achieved between January 1, 2019 and February 23, 2020, must fall between “Q2” (JO minimum qualifying) and the “Q1” (State qualifying) time standards (a “Faster than/Slower than” situation). Time standards. A swimmer may only compete in events in which they do not have a Q1 State Championship qualifying time prior to the JO Meet. Any swimmer who has achieved a SCM or LCM Q1 State time cut which will allow the swimmer to enter an event in the 2020 Short Course State Meet is ineligible to enter or compete in the same event in the JO meet. This includes any 8 & under swimmer who has achieved the 10 & under Q1 standard.

·          **13-18 swimmer with 1000 Yd. Free Q2 time, can enter the 1650 Yd. Freestyle at the Q2 cutoff time, if they have not already achieved a Q1 time in the 1650 Yd. Freestyle.

·          ***11-12 swimmer with the 1650 Yd. Free Q2 Time, can enter the 1000 Yd. Freestyle at the Q2 cutoff time, if they have not already achieved a Q1 time in the 1000 Yd. Freestyle.

Age up Exception: All swimmers who “age up” after JOs and before their respective State Meet, either 12 and Under or 13/14 & Open, and who don’t have a Q1 (State qualifying) time in their new State Meet age group may enter an event in their current age group at the time of the JO meet at a seed time at or faster than their current age groups Q1 Time. This additional entry option is intended to allow all swimmers an opportunity to qualify for the State Meets in their actual age group at the State Meets. Swimmers who enter an event at JO under the “age up” exception are not, however, eligible for awards at JO in that event.

Individual Entry Limits – Swimmers may swim a maximum of 1 individual event Friday and 3 individual events and 1 relay each day Saturday and Sunday. Swimmers must be entered in the meet in at least 1 individual event to swim in a relay (NO RELAY ONLY SWIMMERS). Additionally, teams are limited to an A and B relay for each relay event.

We would like all our swimmers to check-in and be on the pool deck and changed at least 15 minutes before the start of warm-up with their events already written on their hand. This allows the coaches to warm-up all our swimmers together as a team. It is imperative that the swimmers on time with the limited warm-up time (20 Minutes) and pool space to warm-up. Our swimmers need to be warming up at the same time together as a team.

Entry Fees –$5 per individual event, $5.00 Michigan Swimming surcharge per swimmer and a $10 Gators Coaches fee per swimmer to help pay for coaches’ expenses.

Deck Entries/Time Trials - Deck Entries will not be accepted. Time trials will be offered at the discretion of the Meet Host and Meet Referee, only if time permits. The cost is $7 per individual event and $15 for a relay. Only 1 individual time trial and 1 relay time trial will be allowed per swimmer each day. Time trials do not count towards the per day entry limits nor does a swimmer need to be entered in the meet to swim a time trial.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REQUESTED WHEN REGISTERING YOUR SWIMMER

Please make sure you indicate in the Note Section of the athlete entry anything you feel is important for the coaches to know.

Swimmers should be entered in their best events and/or events that they are closest to qualifying for the State Meet. We will be helping make sure your swimmer is in the events that they should be swimming in or we can enter the events for your swimmer. If a swimmer qualifies for a State cut at the last meet before Junior Olympics, we will switch the events that they no longer can swim in the JO meet and pick a new event for them.

If you would like the coaches to help you pick your events for your swimmer please let us know what days you would like them to swim in the meet. If nothing is put down, we will assume that means they will be swimming all days of the meet.

Please see the attached meet packet for any additional information about the meet.
