Southwestern Age Group Regionals SCY - SWAGR - Qualifiers Only

Mar 19, 2020 - Mar 22, 2020
March, 11 2020

It’s with a heavy heart that I must share that the Southwestern Age Group Regionals have been cancelled.  USA Swimming has imposed a “strong recommendation” that all sanctioned competition should be banned for the next 30 days, and we will comply with their mandate.  CLICK HERE for the USA Swimming site regarding this information.

We feel very sorry for those who worked so hard to prepare for this event:  swimmers have put so much time in the water, managers and coaches have put in so much time in planning your trips, our host team and officials have put in time to prepare an OUTSTANDING competition.  However, we do realize that there are things in life that are bigger than a swim meet.  We agree that the health and safety of all supersedes fast swims (although I could debate both sides of this one…just trying to lighten the mood).

Here are some frequently asked questions regarding this decision:

1.       Will we reschedule?  No.  Sorry, it’s just too hard to get all the pieces in place to make this happen.

2.       Will the meet fees be refunded?  Yes.  Mark Bennett will coordinate with USA Swimming to refund the fees on OME.  Checks that have been mailed will be shredded, unless a team representative contacts Mark Bennett (by Friday, May 27) to have the check mailed back to the sender.

3.       Can we see the psych sheet?  Yes!  You may contact Mark Bennett to see the most current copy of the psych sheet.  (Spoiler alert, Clovis was seeded to win = )

I do want to thank ALL of you for your interest in this meet.  As many of you know, I have a strong personal interest in getting this meet to improve and grow.  SWAGR will be back in 2021!  Put it on your calendar…I’m sure there will be some kind of discussion of when and where, but with your help and hard work, it will be stronger than ever!

A note from the Meet Host:

Hey all,
We are only a few short weeks away from the SWAGR Championships!  Just a few updates to info, as we are getting very close to GO TIME!
  • Entries are due Wednesday, March 11 by midnight!!!  You may enter using a team entry file (event file is offered on our landing page) or enter on the USA Swimming OME on the USA Swimming website.
  • Gate Fee:  This year we will be charging a gate fee for spectators to watch the meet.  The fees are $5 per session or $15 for the whole meet.  This is to help cover the operating costs of running the meet.  Coaches, officials, and swimmers are not held to the gate fee.  Timers and chaperones will not pay for the sessions in which they need to be on deck, as long as they check-in with the admission area on deck, on the North side of the complex (near the scoreboard).
  • Event photographers:  This year, we will be inviting Zoom photography to the event.  They have asked that we share their website with our guests, so here it is!  Check it out!
  • We have a "Sign-up Genius" website set up for certified officials who would like to help with this event.  Please send this link to your officiating crew and let them know that we would love to have them on deck to help out:
  • Coaches Check In:  We will be running a "Closed Deck" for this meet.  Coaches will need to check-in upon arrival, and show up-to-date certifications on their USA Swimming Deck-Pass to receive access to the coaches' area, session heat sheets, and hospitality.
  • SWAG!  You can't have SWAGR with out SWAG!  Arena Swimwear has donated some items all swimmers.  Swimmers and coaches' bag-tags are on the way.  Swimsuits West, NorthWest Designs (t-shirt vendor), and Jolyn Sportswear will all be at the meet providing essential swim stuff!  We will also have a comprehensive line-up of food trucks in the parking lot to handle whatever craving approaches your crew.
  • For those who haven't looked yet, we have a "Landing Page" on the Clovis Swim Club website.  Stay tuned to this page for updates regarding timing assignments, psych sheets, timelines, and anything else you need to navigate this Championship meet:
  • Facility stuff:  We will not have a full compliment of back foot wedges for the blocks, so we will be using them only for the finals sessions.  We also do not have backstroke starting ledges.  Please prepare your swimmers accordingly.

HEALTH WATCH 3/10/20:  We are aware of Covid-19 / Coronavirus warnings in the area.  We are keeping a close eye on recommendations from health professionals advising the school districts and government offices.  As of this time, health professionals are not calling for any activities to be cancelled or scaled back.  Our meet referee, Jim Patterson, is also watching this situation very carefully and has been given the authority to make any calls that are in the best interest in the health and safety of the athletes, and all those affiliated with the SWAGR meet.  Please trust that those in a position of authority will take every consideration to make a clear decision that involves the fairness of the competition and the individual safety of everyone involved.

Feel free to share this info with your parents, swimmers, and relevant staff.  Thanks for continuing your interest in this championship meet!
