What:  2019 Gulf Open Water Carnival                       

When: Sunday, October 27th 2019

Where:  Twin Lakes Scuba Park, Twin Lakes RV Resort 19400 TX-6 - Manvel, TX 77578.

Who:  This event is for swimmers in Group 3 and above.

The GULF Open Water Carnival is a qualifying meet for the GULF Open Water Travel Team that goes to Florida each year to compete for GULF Swimming. Information on qualifying is listed below the RICE specific information. 

Arrival Schedule

Arrive/Check-in: 7:30-7:45am - $5 per vehicle for entry onto resort (bring cash only for vehicle entry fee)

Twin Lake Rules: No Pets Allowed, No Glass Containers and 16 and Unders must have an adult present at the park.

Team Dynamic Warm up: 7:50am – Bring shoes & dryland attire (weather permitting)

Lake Warm-up: 8:15am

Procedures & Format

Race Schedule

800m – 9:00 Start – 13&Over; 12&Under

1 mile – 10:00 Start (approx.) – 13&Over; 12&Under (11-12 All-Star Qualifier)

2 mile – 11:00 Start (approx.) – 13&Over (13-14, 15&O all-star qualifier)

  • Athlete’s whose first race is the 1 mile should still be present for warm-ups prior to the 800 free.

  • Pre-race instructions will be given 10-15 minutes before the start of each race

Meet Attire

Rice Aquatics Shirt / Rice Jacket or Parka if needed

Athlete Information

  • This is a championship meet. Athletes should come prepared to race and compete with appropriate energy and team spirit.

  • Immediately upon arrival, athletes must check-in and get numbers on arms by fence.

  • Please plan according to weather predictions by bringing tents and a change of clothes. The lake must be cleared for lightning, very much like our pool. We will make every attempt to finish all competitions on Sunday. 

  • Portable toilets are available on site. It’s recommended to change into your suit and use the restroom before you leave home in the morning. Give yourself extra time to do so.

  • What to bring: towels, chair, sun screen, clear/light goggles, Gatorade & snacks

Gulf Swimming Open Water All Star Team Selection Procedures

Purpose: to promote open water racing beyond the local level and to reward the Gulf LSC’s top open water swimmers with an opportunity to compete on a regional, zone and national level.

Qualifying Procedures: The Gulf Open Water Championships in October of each year at Twin Lakes serves as the primary qualification meet in order to make the Gulf All Star Team.  Qualifying procedures TBA.
