SilverRays, Strathcona County Swim Club
Message from head coach Mark Chantaj
Dear Silver Ray families,
I would like to take this opportunity to say how thrilled I am to have been given the responsibility to lead the Strathcona County Swim Club into its first season. I can only imagine how excited the swimmers, coaches & parents are for this club merger. I'm optimistic everyone views this merger as an opportunity for growth, improvement, potential actualized & FUN for all individuals involved with our newly formed Silver-Rays!
I spent the last 7 seasons coaching with the Fort McMurray Swim Club, hopefully I'm a familiar face to some. I assumed my last Head Coach role in 2016 after the wildfire severely affected the Fort McMurray community while simultaneously being the 4th Head Coach in 4 seasons. It's rather fitting I assume my next Head Coach position amidst a global pandemic and club merger; life's too short for boring.
I'd encourage all swimmers to begin to get behind the phrase "no expectations, only intentions". We have no clue what these upcoming months will bring and expectations can lead to potential frustration & disappointment. Instead, have the intention to make all your teammates (old or new) feel as welcomed as possible as we come together as a new team. Have the intention of making every training opportunity as beneficial as possible with your highest level of focus & effort. Finally, have the intention to get a little bit better every week as we progress into our first season together as the Silver-Rays!
I look forward to meeting all the Silver-Ray swimmers, coaches & parents in the near future as we begin to come together as a team in the upcoming weeks. I'd like to emphatically reiterate how excited I am to be part of the inaugural season with you all.
Your Head Coach,
