The meet is at the North Shore Aquatic Center St Petersburg Fl.
We combine teams with BST and swim under one name at nationals.
Fri session is an evening distance session including 13-14 and open 500 fr and 400 IM. Plus 11-12 and 10 and under 200 IM. These are all timed final events. Saturday and Sunday are trials and finals run in 2 parallel pools. The only group that does not come back for finals are 8 and unders. All their events are timed finals in the morning. 9-10 and 11-12 bring back top 10 from morning. 13-14 and open bring back top 20. We had most swimmers make finals in some events which really added to the experience.
There is a mid day session after sat prelims for the 1650 free. It is for 13 and up. Swimmers are seeded by time and gender then separated out into age groups after competing. Last year there were 2 heats of boys and 2 heats of girls. So the session was only about an hour. You are permitted 3 events per day plus relays and the 1650 DOES count towards your 3 events. There is a $15 facility use fee per swimmer, $6.10 for individual entries and $10 per relay. These were from last year so I dont know of any increase for this year.
There are no qualifying times for all events under 200 yds. There are qualifying times for 200 and up but they are a VERY modest "B" times at most.
We are permitted multiple relay entries and all relays can score. Relays are all 200's. 8 and unders are 100's.
The host team is Carrollwood Village Swim Team and the meet is USA Swimming sanctioned thru the Florida LSC.
As a team we travel down on Wednesday to Tampa and rent vehicles to St Pete .Others may choose to travel on Thursday or even Friday AM but I do not recommend that as any delays could and have caused problems for us in the past. We have a team breakfast on Thur AM then a team practice at the facility at 9:30 for about an hour we pre arrange pool time on that day with a fee of $7 per swimmer. The rest of the day is free time but we build in rest/ nap time and study hall for swimmers should they need it. We also had a team dinner Thursday night at a local Carrabas or Olive Garden but we have talked about possibly having a dinner catered at the our hotel. This is something we can decide on as we get closer to January.
To participate a swimmer must be a member of the participating BG club at least 90 days in advance. So joining our club must be completed by January 1st to avoid any issues. Cost for joining the club is $15. Yep, you read that right. $15 for the entire year.
The meet notice is not yet posted but results for the previous nationals are available on the CVST team website.
We are staying at the Indigo Hotel in St Pete and is only a 3-5 minute drive from pool. Its actually within walking distance for non- swimmers should they so desire. The Indigo is a Holiday Inn member and excepts points/ rewards from them.
Call (855)516-1093 to book your room. We fly out of BWI with Southwest as they have consistently had the best fares. We book flights ASAP as they fill up pretty fast within a month of travel.
We have a block reserved with a price of approximately $170 a night. They would not allow us to book more in advance.Tell them you are with the BST Swim Team to get the discount. This price does include our own private breakfast for the team and parents each morning of the competition. They and all the hotels in St Pete pretty much charge for parking. The going rate is $10 a day.
