2020 MN MNSI Winter Open Meet

Thursday-Sunday, December 10-13, 2020

Held under the sanction of USA Swimming.

It is understood and agreed that USA Swimming shall be free and held harmless from any liabilities or claims for damages arising by reason of injuries, including exposure to or infected with COVID-19 which may result in illness, personal injury, permanent disability, and/or death, to anyone during the conduct of the event.

It is further understood and agreed that Minnesota Swimming shall be free and held harmless from any liabilities or claims for damages arising by reason of injuries, including exposure or and infected with COVID-19 which may result in illness, personal injury, permanent disability, and/or death, to anyone during the conduct of the event.

An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and individuals with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.

USA Swimming, Inc., cannot prevent you (or your child(ren)) from becoming exposed to, contracting, or spreading COVID-19 while participating in the USA Swimming sanctioned events. It is not possible to prevent against the presence of the disease. Therefore, if you choose to participate in a USA Swimming sanctioned event, you may be exposing yourself to and/or increasing your risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19.

BY ATTENDING OR PARTICIPATING IN THIS COMPETITION, YOU VOLUNTARILY ASSUME ALL RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH EXPOSURE TO COVID-19 AND FOREVER RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS USA SWIMMING AND MINNESOTA SWIMMING AND EACH OF THEIR OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, AGENTS, EMPLOYEES OR OTHER REPRESENTATIVES FROM ANY LIABILITY OR CLAIMS INCLUDING FOR PERSONAL INJURIES, DEATH, DISEASE OR PROPERTY LOSSES, OR ANY OTHER LOSS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CLAIMS OF NEGLIGENCE AND GIVE UP ANY CLAIMS YOU MAY HAVE TO SEEK DAMAGES, WHETHER KNOWN OR UNKNOWN, FORESEEN OR UNFORESEEN, IN CONNECTION THEREWITH.

You acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that your family, including child(ren), may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 while on site at the pool or facility and that such exposure or infection may result in the personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and death. You understand that the risk of becoming exposed to or infected by COVID-19 at the pool or facility may result from the actions, omissions, or negligence of myself and others, including, but not limited to, MNSI and other swim teams participating in the meet and pool management company’s employees, volunteers, and program participants and their families.

MNSI and participating teams will include the above information in meet announcements, heat sheets and posted around the pool facility. MNSI reserves the right to cancel this meet at any time

Meet Type:  

This is a prelim/final open invitational for MNSI registered athletes and teams only.

 

Prelims will swim in two separate AM sessions each day (Group A and B). Teams will be assigned to Group A or B before the start of the meet. Group A will be in the first prelim session on Thursday and Saturday. Group B will be in the first prelim session on Friday and Sunday.

 

Top 24 swimmers from the combined prelim results (Group A and B) in each event will swim at finals each night. Exception the 1000 and 1650 Freestyle events are time finals.

 

Final sessions will run the events in the following order: C Final, B Final and A Final.

 

All events the swimmer will procedure directly to the starting blocks, including all final sessions. No ready room will be use for this meet for any session.

 

Athletes (any age) with one qualifying time may swim up to five additional bonus individual events, provided they have the MNSI 15 & older State qualifying time in those bonus events.

A LCM Time Trial sessions will be offered for all athletes particpating in the Minneosta Winter Open Meet. Time Trials will be held on Monday, December 7th and Tuesday, December 8th . Cost per event is $20.00. More information will be provided regarding the time trial once a team's entries are accepted into the competition.

Participants / Eligibility: 

Our team will be in the Group A for prelims.

Swimmers can swim up to 5 bonus events with the bonus time standards being the 15&Over State Cut.

Only MN registered athletes with a meet qualifying time standard may enter the meet. The qualifying period for this meet is November 1, 2018 through November 24, 2020. Athletes can qualify for the meet in SCY or LCM.

Fees:

$100 per Athlete Flat Fee

Meet Schedule: 

First Prelim Sessions of the day: warmups will start at 8:00 AM

Second Prelim Sessions of the day: warmups will not start before 10:30 AM

Timed Finals Sessions (3 and 13): warmups will not start before 12:30 PM

Final Sessions: warmups will not start before 3:30 PM

The Meet Directors reserve the right to modify all warmup and session start times (earlier or later) as dictated by entry numbers and meet needs. Participating teams will be notified if any changes are made.

Complete daily schedules will be posted on the MNSI website as they are determined by the Meet Directors.

Entry Deadline / Limitations:

Deadline to signup is on Friday, November 20th, 2020.

Event maximum is 2 individual events per day and a maximum of 6 events for the meet. The Time Trial LCM session will NOT be included in the maximum of 6 events.

Programs will be available via Meet Mobile, and as PDF on MNSI website. 

Amenities:

Due to the current COVID-19 environment, the University of MN Aquatics Facility is not allowing any spectators currently. MNSI will continuously monitor the evolving guidelines pertaining to group size as it relates to COVID-19 and guidelines from various local and state agencies. Limiting the amount of people in the facility at this time will help keep the swimmers, coaches, officials, and volunteers safe during the meet. Concessions will not be provided during the meet. Bottled water and snacks will be provided to officials, coaches, and volunteers during meet. Officials and coaches that will be attending multiple sessions during the meet may be provided food in between sessions.

COVID-19 Procedures & Requirements:

Key Safety Considerations
1 .Facility capacity is 250 people
2. All staff, coaches, volunteers and officials will be required to wear cloth masks at all times. Athletes will be required to wear a mask at all times until immediately before they enter the water. Lifeguards will be required to wear masks at all times they arenot on the lifeguard stand. Once a guard takes the stand, he/she may remove their mask to allow for emergency response. We will place a perimeter around our elevated stands that will allow for anyone approaching the lifeguard to be a minimum six feet away.
3. Anyone in the facility who has to be reminded more than three times about mask adherence will be asked to leave. Lifegaurds, officials and meet marshals will be providing reminders to people in the facility during the meet. The decision for a person to be removed from the meet will be made by the Meet Directors and/or Facility Director.
4. All staff, coaches, officials, volunteers and athletes will be screened prior to entry using the Minnesota Department of Health’s Facility Health Screening Questionnaire.
5. Officials and coaches will use electronic whistles.
6. Athletes will use the spectator seating area to allow for proper physical distancing. Deck access will be controlled and monitored by meet director and officials.
7. Locker rooms may be accessed for restroom use and changing only. To maintain proper distancing, only four (4) people will be allowed in the locker room at a time. Facility staff and/or volunteeers will monitor the number of people in the locker rooms.
8. For sessions that exceed 69 swimmers, warm ups must happen in multiple sessions to keep pool capacity within MDH guidelines.
9. Outside doors will lock at a predetermined time once all athletes and personnel have entered and remain locked for the duration of the event. If anyone requires reentry during the event this must be arranged with the Meet Directors.
10. No spectators are allowed at this time. Meet organizers may provide live streaming of the event should they choose.
11. Alternative displays of good sporting conduct will be encouraged. No handshakes, high-fives, hugs, excessive cheering, etc. will be allowed.
