Description
What are Time
Trials?
Time Trials are an
opportunity for swimmers to get times in as many strokes as they
can in a meet-like setting. Swimmers are encouraged to swim
all four strokes and may be asked to swim a stroke that they do not
consider their favorite. Coaches would like to see times of
their swimmers when they swim the different strokes. HOWEVER,
swimmers must have demonstrated in practice proficiency in a stroke
in order to be allowed to compete in that stroke at time
trials. We do not want swimmers getting disqualified and
starting the summer season feeling
discouraged.
All teams in the NVSL
(Northern Virginia Swimming League) have Time Trials about a week
or two after practice begins and before the first
Meet. There is no scoring in Time Trials. The only
swimmers attending Time Trials are Highlands' swimmers. Time
Trials are held in the competition pool at Highlands. IT IS
VERY IMPORTANT FOR SWIMMERS TO OBTAIN TIMES IN AS MANY EVENTS AS
POSSIBLE THAT THEY ARE LEGAL IN PRIOR TO OUR FIRST
MEET.
Time Trials is for Swim
Team members only. Mini Whompers do not participate in Time
Trials.
Where do Swimmers
go?
Swimmers will be asked to
join their fellow teammates up on the grassy area above the
competition pool. They will be supervised by our
coaches. Parents are encouraged to help Time, volunteer with
merchandise and to help with the family luncheon as opposed to
joining their children up in the grassy area. The swimmers will be
monitored by our coaches.
What should swimmers
wear?
Swimmers should wear their
team suit if they have one or other appropriate racing style
suit. For the boys, this means no board shorts or trunks.
Instead either jammer or brief style suits. For the girls a
racing style one piece suit. All swimmers should wear
swim caps and proper fitting goggles.
