Velocity is committed to providing our athletes with a strong comprehensive program. In December of 2020, we began working with certified trainers to help our athletes with dryland training and by January of 2022, Velocity added in person optional dryland training with certified trainers for all senior level and up training groups.

Any swimmer age 12 and up is welcome to join the dryland programs. Velocity Programs will run 2 times a week from April - May for spring session and June - July for Summer Session.

Why do Dryland?
Dryland training plays a huge role in keeping the athlete strong and healthy. Dryland, done correctly can increase strength and power, improve overall performance, as well as, aid in injury prevention. In the water, this translates to improvements in both your distance per stroke as well as your stroke rate. Providing an external stimulus of constantly varied resistance training causes your body to grow and adapt.

The most common injuries in swimming involve the shoulder complex, knees, and hips. Swimmers in general face an overload of repetitive movement patterns. Strengthening the posterior chain and core stabilization muscles through dryland training drastically reduces the chances of injury by providing a strong support for all of the rigorous and repetitive movements involved in swimming.
