Eligibility:            
  • Swimmer age will be determined as of Dec 31, 2022.
  • All swimmers must be registered with North Carolina Swimming and USA Swimming, Inc. All Adult Athletes (18 & over) must hold current APT certification to compete.
  • Single meet membership in USA Swimming is available for non-USA swimmers
  • through meet registration at Sandshark.org.
  • All Masters swimmers must also obtain single meet membership—there is no
  • reciprocity between USA Swimming, Inc. and USMS Swimming.
 
Format:               
This is a timed final Age Group/Senior, pre-seeded Open Water (outdoor lake) meet. AGE UP DATE IS 12/31/2022 TO BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH FINA REQUIREMENTS FOR ZONES.

Events:
Please see the Order of Events list posted above.  Coaches will make all event selection decisions but encourage swimmers to discuss their preferences with their coach.
               
Entry Limit:        
Club USA Swimmers may swim all events except the mile. The mile is aimed
at older swimmers (ages 18/Up). Coaches are welcome.
Entries in the Poseidon (5K-3K-2K) should be in each of the events PLUS the
10K event (for tracking purposes—there is no entry fee associated with it).
Poseidon swimmers will swim with their designated age group for each race,
or in the top wave for their age group race, should their entry time dictate
placing in that wave.
Please pay attention to race time limits; swimmers will be pulled from the
water if they have not completed the race by the designated limit.
 
Cost:     
Attending (swimming one event) = $70
Poseidon (swimming three events) = $100
* The above tiered fees include all individual entry fees, facility fee, host team/site surcharges, NCS travel fund surcharge and TYDE admin fee. 
 
Entry Fee Payment Note: 
When you sign up for this meet online, you authorize the YMCA of Northwest North Carolina to charge the account on file with TYDE for the total amount due per the entry fee amounts listed in the information above.  If you wish to use an alternate method of payment for these entry fees, you must email [email protected] prior to the meet registration deadline
You also acknowledge that payment is non-refundable regardless of illness, injury or any reason that may not allow you to participate in this meet.  Swimmers who sign up but then fail to attend the meet for any reason will be charged for their entry fees. 
 
Awards:              
Poseidon swimmers who complete all 3 races (5K, 3K, 2K) will receive awards; Top 8 in the
400 Open and 5K Open and in each Age Group race will receive medals.
               
Concessions:     
Refreshments will be available at the concession stand.
 
Suit:                            
There will be no changing areas on site. Swimmers are expected to arrive and leave in their suits.
Swim Suit policies—no tie back suits are permitted.
Two piece suits (triathlon style) are permitted as long as they do not have a tie back.
Tech suits, approved by FINA, are permitted for ages 13/over.

Note:                          
  • There will be no changing areas on site. Swimmers are expected to arrive and leave in their suits.  Swimmers are responsible for marking their own race numbers.  
  • ALL SWIMMERS MUST CLIP NAILS prior to check in—little to no white. Nail clippers will not be on site this year.
  • Swimmers wishing to wear masks may dispose of them as they enter the water; trash cans will be available.   
  • Waves will be limited to discourage crowding; meet management reserves the right to adapt wave sizes. When wave 1 is at the starting line, wave two will be checked in and wait, spread out, in shallow water.  When Wave one leaves, Wave 2 will head to the starting line area and wave 3 will be checked in. Timing between waves will be approx. 1.52 minutes.  Waves will be lined up in designated areas.
  • Spectators are welcome.  Please contact meet management if you are interested in volunteering on the water in kayak or on a paddle board.
  • Parents will be within view of swimmers and are encouraged to volunteer for the event.
  • Parking will be in the soccer field for Friday and Saturday races.  Families are asked to arrive just prior to check in and to leave following their races to allow space for other families to park.
