Channel Cats Give Back! June 2022
(this is a team hosted event)
Channel Cats Give Back!
Channel Cats, we are excited to get involved and give back to our community in a BIG way through 2 events hosted at Second Harvest in Pasco.
Second Harvest is a non-profit agency which brings together community resources to feed people in need through empowerment, education, and partnerships. Second Harvest has been leading the hunger-relief network in our Tri-Cities region since 1971. Second Harvest distributes over 2 million pounds of free food each month to help people in need in 26 counties in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. They have partnerships with over 250 neighborhood food banks and meal centers which make it possible to feed 55,000 people each week.
We have arranged for interested Channel Cat athletes to take part in a community volunteer program at Second Harvest. You will sort food and or repackage bulk food into smaller portions for distribution to food banks and meal sites.
This is a fun opportunity to spend time with your friends and teammates outside of the pool. Students who need community service hours for school or applications, this is a GREAT way to earn your hours.
Important: Participating in one of these events does NOT count toward your Channel Cat Service Hours needed for each family.
The Food Sorts are for Channel Cat athletes ONLY. Each food sort slot will be staffed with Channel Cat parent chaperones.
Here are the details:
We are offering 2 time slots for Food Sorts:
Thursday June 23, 2022 from 5:30pm-7:30pm (space limit 30 athletes)
Availability is on a first come, first served basis. Please sign up soon to ensure you get a spot. Per Second Harvest requirements, you must sign up to participate. Unfortunately, we will not be allowed to accommodate drop in volunteers on either day.
Also, PLEASE SIGN UP for ONLY 1 time slot. This ensures everybody that wants to participate can do so. As we near the dates and space is available we may open this event to family members.
To sign up go to:
The Channel Cat Homepage
Under Events click the heading for Team Events & Meetings
Click on the Event “2 nd Harvest Food Sort”
Soon after signing up for a specific day, you will receive further details in a separate email from the Channel Cats with a special link regarding signing up with Second Harvest as a volunteer, the location of the Food Sort and important details about this volunteer opportunity. Following these Second Harvest instructions is required to participate, as safety reasons and warehouse resources limit participants inside their warehouse during the food sort.
We will also provide details about possibly carpooling to Pasco together on each Food Sort Day.
This is NOT a requirement for any Channel Cat swimmer or family.
Let’s do our part, have fun, and fill the slots.
If the demand is high and we fill all the slots we can work on other opportunities for our Channel Cat athletes to give back in our community.
