From Longhorn Aquatics to all Austin-area high school water polo athletes:

Junior Olympics/Qualifiers Summer USAWP Competitions

What - Competing with Longhorn at the summer USA WP tournaments including JOs qualifiers and JOs itself.  Attendance at all tournaments not required. Interested athletes would have to join at least the Longhorn White group which practices twice a week and would also cover their entry into the summer league. Junior Olympics is the largest water polo tournament in the country, with 100s of teams competing over 4 days in San Jose, California. More details below.

Dates- May 7th-August 1

Costs - $100 or $150/mo Longhorn club membership to cover weekly practices. $115 Gold membership with USA Water Polo if competing in JOs/Quals. Your current membership cost (e.g. $40 bronze membership) can be subtracted from this fee. Tournament Entry fees vary by tournament.

Tournament Dates - May 26-27; June 8-10; June 23-24; July 7-8; July 21-29

Official JOs Website: http://www.usawaterpolo.org/juniorolympics/

Dates: Session 1 (12U and older boys) - July 21-24; Session 2 (10U coed and all girls)- July 26-29

Location: San Jose Area-The tournament is spread out over several (20+) pools and competition locations vary depending on age group. Exact game locations will be released a few weeks before the tournament starts.

Approximate Cost: We charge $200 per athlete, $100 covers tournament entry fees and $100 to cover coaches travel fees.

Travel Logistics: Athletes are responsible for providing their own travel and lodging for the tournament. We will help organize parent chaperones for athletes that wish to travel on their own. Generally, the safest flight arrangements are to fly in the afternoon/evening before the first day of competition and the morning after the last day of competition.

Eligibility: Athletes compete in the age division of their age as of August 1st 2018. Athletes can "play up" in any number of divisions they qualify for, but may not play down to younger divisions. All athletes need to be Gold members ($115 or $75 if already Bronze member) of USAWP and complete the online age verification. Both can be done at usawaterpolo.com.

Qualification: All teams must qualify for Junior Olympics at their Zone Championships, which for us is June 8-10 in Houston. In Texas, we usually have more spots available for any given age bracket than there are teams competing, so the Zone Champs are used for seeding purposes only. However, that may change as the sport continues to grow in Texas and more teams enter the Zone Champs each year. We will have a better idea of our chances of qualifying as we approach the end of May and teams finish entering the qualifying tournament.
