Howard Jones Memorial Senior Invite
HOWARD JONES MEMORIAL SENIOR INVITE
TRAINING: JUNE 19-21, 2018
MEET: JUNE 22-24, 2018
Commitment Deadline: May 31, 2018
Supervision: Chaperoned preferred (swimmers may choose to stay with parents if they wish)
Eligibility: 13&O swimmers with a qualification time from January 1, 2017 through entry deadline.
Meet Format: This is a Long Course Meter (LCM) outdoor meet. Events will be combined by age for prelims but separated into age groups (13-14, 15&O) for finals. There is a Consolation Final and Championship Final for each event (except the 1500 free which is timed final).
Pre-Meet Training: We have had a few days of ‘training’ before all our summer meets and it’s greatly paid off. It takes a few days to get used to the LCM, outdoor pool. Your races will be much better because of the pre-meet training. We’re looking at 5 training sessions prior to the meet.
Why This Meet: We feel it is important for our swimmers to experience the ‘big picture’ of their sport, which includes competing outside of Alaska. We also feel that LCM, outdoor swimming adds to their well-rounded swimming career. It is motivational, prepares them for bigger meets, and it’s a blast!
We chose this meet because it is less expensive than many other summer meet options, the time standards are reasonable, and Finals is separated by age group. The pool is also considered one of the best in the Northwest, with Senior Sectionals held there each summer. For those who have swam at Mt. Hood during RXII Champs, you won’t even recognize it without the dome. It is certainly a fast pool.
Lodging: We would like for this to be a true ‘team travel trip’ with swimmers rooming with teammates. We will take care of all arrangements for the swimmers and add their portion of hotel costs to your account after the meet. Parents are encouraged to stay at the team hotel and join us for meals/outings. Swimmers may choose to stay with their parents if they wish.
Ground Transportation: Swimmers will travel together in the team van. Seatbelts must be worn at all times. Swimmers may choose to ride with their parents if they wish.
Food: All swimmers will be responsible for their own food cost. Please plan accordingly.
Minimum Participation: We will need a minimum of 10 swimmers committed by the deadline. If we do not reach this number, we will be forced to cancel the trip.
Lewis & Clark College Visit: We have set up an unofficial recruiting visit for our group at Lewis & Clark College in Portland. We will meet their staff, see their facilities, and ask questions. He will talk to us about college swimming, what’s expected of his college athletes, the DIII recruiting process, etc. This is a great chance to learn more about swimming at the next level. Meeting will be at 2:00p on June 20.
Per Swimmer Travel Fee: $125. This fee allows us to offset some of the cost for coach’s airfare, hotel, and rental car.
