Vancouver Island Swimmers are selected based on the following:

  • Athletes 12-14 years of age, as of July 19th, 2018
  • Any swimmer holding a current Swimming Canada Western Championship Standard, prior to March 8, 2018, will be ineligible to compete. Athletes who achieve a western time after this date are still eligible to go to the games. 
  • To be disqualified by March 8th, athletes need to be of Westerns Qualifying age. i.e. 13 year old boys and 12 year old girls are not effected. 
  • The minimum standard for entry into any individual event shall be the current SwimBC “Tier II" standard. The Provincial Advisor has the discretion to ease the minimum time standards where necessary. 
This is the suggested selection qualification process from the technical package online:
 The 10 male and 10 female to be selected as follows:
- Single highest SwimBC ranked swim in each category:  
- Sprint Free (50-100-200)
- Distance Free (400-800/1500)
- Backstroke (100-200)
- Breaststroke (100-200)
- Butterfly (100-200) 
- IM (200-400)
- The final four spots selection based on the next highest four SwimBC points scored swims with the caveat that only 3 swimmers may be selected in any one category.
- Swimmers scoring in more than 1 category, only the highest scored swim shall be considered.
