Swim families,

The swim club hosts two major swim meets:

Ryan Downing Memorial - November 3 & 4, 2017 and,

Yukon Invitational Championships - April 20 & 21, 2018,

and, 2-time trials (dates Nov 26, 2017 and May 26, 2018) each season.

As well, there may be other mini-time trials for senior swim squads, and of course, our fun Teddy Bear fun event for the youngest club swimmers.

In order for these events to be "official and sanctioned" events, the club must ensure that qualified officials are officiating at them.

The officiating commitment for

Junior squads (Cubs, Brown, Black, & Teen) includes (but NOT limited to) fulfillment of the following jobs for All club events:

safety marshall, timing, set-up, take-down, clothing sales, on-deck Cub helpers, referee runner, ribbons/heat winner ribbons, food supply, food clean-up, and volunteer check-in.

The officiating commitment for

Senior squads (Polar Bears, Kodiaks, SilverTips) includes (but NOT limited to) fulfillment & *certification in the following jobs/roles for All club events:

Chief Timekeeper, Meet Manager, Starter, Chief of Electronics, Chief Finish Judge, Recorder/Scorer, Stroke Judges, Turn Judges, Referee, Timers

*Certification means course completion plus two independent successful deck jobs completed and signed off by a referee.

The course instructors are all volunteers, most of whom have swimmers presently in the club or who have had swimmers in the club in past years.

The swim club has an officiating course requirement (posted as an attachment to this) and it is intended to ensure we have enough qualified officials to run these events now and in future years.

After you take an officiating courseplease sign up to volunteer in that role at the time trials and swim meets so that you get practice at it.

The intention is also to keep people trying new roles so as to ensure we have enough people qualified in each role throughout the season and in future years.

Please read the attached policy to determine which course/s you are needing to take.

The full season schedule is also attached as a document and finally, the job sign up is here  (top right hand corner) to allow you to sign up for the course.

Thank you

Jenn Tyldesley, President for Swim Yukon (Sport Governing Body (SGB) that looks after Officiating)

and WGB Board of Directors
