2018 Summer Swimmers Camping Trip
Every summer swim team member has the opportunity to get out of the pool area for a few days. We have been doing this over the past five years. Whether it is canoeing the Yellow River, rock climbing at Devils Lake, or being attacked by giant flies, we always have great stories to tell when we return.
This year we will be challenging ourselves to an Island trip in Michigan. The last time we were there we hiked 18 miles, climbed 500 foot dunes, and swam in 55 degree water. This year’s trip will start on July 26, 2018. We will be leaving York at about 10:00am. We will travel through lower Michigan to the Traverse City area. We will camp on the mainland Thursday. Friday we will take a 2 hour boat ride to the Island. Saturday and Sunday will be filled with team building and exploring. On Sunday, July 29th at 4pm, we will get back on the boat and head back. We will know our estimated arrival time by 10pm and let everyone know. Hopefully by 1am.
The Chaperones for the trip this year will be: Coach Dave Davis
Coach Sarah Lundine
Coach Marc Krolikiewicz
We will have all of the cooking utensils for the trip, including stoves for cooking, but the swimmers must supply what they want to eat for the trip. Each swimmer is allowed one backpack for traveling and hiking. Sleeping bags, food, and clothes are included in the backpack. We do have limited space. We do have cell phones at all times and Island is patrolled by Park Rangers.
Swimmers must be 13 and the cost of this trip is $120.00, Check to Coach Davis. This will pay for the campsites, ferry boat to and from the Island, and gas. The swimmers must supply their own food for the weekend. They will need money for eating on the way to and from the Island.
The links include the detailed itinerary and a list that may be helpful in packing.
We will be limited to the number of campers (32), so get your spot early. You must be a registered EST swimmer to go on the trip. We have limited spaces for the trip. Swimmers will get priority based on practices made and how early they register for the trip. The practices can include Spring swimming, May Stroke Clinic, summer practices, and Meets.
