Description

 Swimmers and parents of the Kodiak and Silver Tip groups;

The WGB Board of Directors has secured the services of Tracey Bilsky, sports psychologist, to work with our senior athletes one-on-one.

Tracey Bilsky has degrees in Kinesiology and a Master’s degree in Science, focusing on the psychology of sport, from the University of Saskatchewan.  As an athlete, she was fascinated by the impact thoughts and feelings have on performance, so she decided to make sport psychology her trade.  Tracey has been counseling athletes at all levels for the past 20 years. She is also the Executive Director of Sport Yukon.  She has been working with the Yukon Cross Country Ski team for over ten years and has worked with WGB athletes in past years.

Tracey will meet with swimmers individually in our timing booth (pool office) for 20 minutes at a time during practice times over the next several months.

Tracey will work on the following “Mental Training” components to start: composure, focus, goal setting, self-talk, and group cohesion. The aim of these sessions is to help swimmers prepare for training, competition and enhance their performance as individual competitors and as a team.

All sessions are confidential between swimmer and facilitator. The athletes can share whatever they choose to share with their parents. In her discussions with the kids, should Tracey find something that would be helpful to share with the coaches and/or parents, she will ask the athlete for permission to share.

Once Tracey has established a relationship with the swimmers and has them practicing some strategies, we may ask her to facilitate a parent session to discuss and explain how to support these components in our athletes.

These sessions are not mandatory and the athletes should be motivated to participate in them, otherwise they will not be of use.

You must sign your swimmer up on the Job Sign Up in order for him/her to be a participant and therefore you are providing your parental consent.

The WGB club will be covering the cost of these sessions for the time being and will re-evaluate regarding future continuation.

Deadline to sign up is this Sunday, February 25th. (we need to let Tracey know who is participating asap)

Lisa Harvey (on behalf of the board of directors)
