Super Session 3

March 17, 2018 - May 13, 2018
March 12, 2018

The Sharks are pleased to continue to provide a year-round practice opportunity to our current and future Sharks! The clinics are held at The Waverly Club located at 15401 Fog Mountain Circle, Haymarket. (Swimmer families must reside in Dominion Valley and be an HOA member to participate.)

This is our third session which means it leads directly into our summer season. If you want your Shark to have a head start heading into the summer, this is the session for them. Our coaching staff is getting narrowed to be similar to what we’ll have this summer, and the workouts will lead into how we start the season

The structure will be very similar to last session, which has maximized their time in the pool. We will have the same structure to every practice, but they will get progressively more difficult and technically challenging. The goal is for the repetition to provide the opportunity for development and retention of the skills they learn. The practice times are split by age and/or ability. The three practice groups are:

·         Tadpoles: This practice group is designed for new swimmers who have trouble completing one length of the pool independently and need extensive stroke development. Practices are 45 minutes which will give them a good workout while not exhausting them to the point where their technique digresses.

·         Minnows: This group is designed for swimmers who can comfortably swim two lengths of the pool but are not legal in all four strokes. The focus will be on stroke development and refinement. Practices are 45 minutes, and will be evenly split between skill work and basic training.

·         Sharks: This group is for swimmers who are legal in all four strokes and are interested in enhancing their skill level and technique. Practices are 1 hour and 15 minutes, with 30 minutes devoted to skill work and 45 minutes focused on more advanced training and racing.

Each practice will address all of the aspects of the stroke including: head and body position; kicking that is coordinated with body position; ideal arm stroke; timing of the pull and kick; and breathing.

Each clinic will be 8 weeks long. Clinic 3 is: March 17 – May 13

There will be no clinics April 30 and May 1 for spring break.

The times will be the same for both Saturday and Sunday

Tadpoles:              10:00 - 10:45am (Group 1

                             10:45 - 11:30am (Group 2)

                             11:30 - 12:15pm (Group 3)
Minnows:              10:00 - 10:45am (Group 1)

                              10:45 - 11:30am (Group 2)

                              11:30 - 12:15pm (Group 3)
Sharks:                  12:15 – 1:30pm

Since we only have two lanes to use, space is very limited; we plan to keep the numbers manageable with a max of 8 swimmers per lane. Two coaches will be in attendance to work with the group of up to 16 kids at one time.

Sorry, no discounts for multiple swimmers or multiple clinics

If you have any questions about the instruction your kids are receiving, please direct questions to me at There were a couple situations where parents spoke to the coaches on deck, and I'd like to avoid that in the future; however, I do want the feedback so we can become a better coaching staff.
