Our Short Course Recognition Party and Annual General Membership meeting will be held on Sunday, April 22 from 1:00 - 3:00 at the Vineyard recreation area. While this event recognizes the accomplishments of our WAVE swimmers, it also is a time to elect our Board Members.
All members serve one year terms, so returning members must be re-elected each year.  Officers are limited to two consecutive terms per position.
As defined by the WAVE bylaws, each year the voting members of the team elect a Board of Directors to direct the activities of the team for the following 12 months. Traditionally, the WAVE holds this meeting and election in April at the Short Course Recognition party. For all Board positions, the one year term begins in April following the election and runs through the next year’s meeting and election. I have attached the job descriptions of the individual officer positions.
According to our bylaws, the responsibilities of the Board of Directors include:
  1. Establishing the goals and direction of the team.
  2. Establishing policies of the team.
  3. Determining what facilities, resources and revenue are necessary to carry out the goals and direction of the team.
  4. Establishing an annual budget for the team, approving expenditures and managing its finances.
  5. Appointing committees as necessary.
  6. Hiring or terminating all employees, independent contractors, or other service providers; establishing the duties, responsibilities and terms of employment for all who serve the team.
  7. Purchasing equipment or goods as necessary.
  8. Executing leases or other binding legal agreements on behalf of the team.
  9. Officers on the Board (President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary) have additional responsibilities.
A Board Member should be committed to:
  1.  Attend monthly meetings for a full twelve month term.
  2. Contribute additional time or talents as needed for special projects or events.
  3. Represent the team in a professional, positive manner to others in the swim community.
  4. Make decisions that reflect the best interest of the team as a whole, rather than an individual or small group of the team.
