Ducklings Program Starts (pre-swim team swimmers)
(this is a team hosted event)
Duckling Practice: will begin Monday June 25th and run through Friday, July 20th
Time: 11:00am-11:30am (except July 4th).
Ducklings Photos: Friday June 22nd 11:30am
Duckling Exhibition Swim: July 17th or July 19th 5:45p: Each Duckling swimmer will be invited to swim an exhibition race (one 25-yard freestyle race) in the Duck’s last home swim meet of the season ( please arrive before 5:30). While this might feel beyond your child’s ability at this time, you will be amazed at how much progress they make over the course of their Duckling practices. Each swimmer will have a swim team coach or captain in the water with them in your child’s lane to encourage and support them the entire race. In addition, each Duckling swimmer will be assigned a “Big Buddy” which is a current swim team member to help them get to the starting block, encourage them throughout the race, bring them their towel at the end and shower them with treats. It is an exciting and encouraging environment for our kids to have their first taste of swim team.
July 20th 11:00a-11:30a: Duckling lunch potluck, the last day of Ducklings, (the last Friday of program) a t the pool picnic area. During this time, we ask that families bring a food item to share. Our coaches will be presenting a participation certificate and team photo to each child.
Discription: The Ducklings program is a mini swim team designed for swimmers age 5-8 that are not quite ready for swim team. Ducklings is about a three week long program that meets Mon-Fri from 11:00-11:30am from June 25th to July 20th. The Ducklings have an exhibition swim at the start of the final Norwood home swim meet on Tuesday, July 17th or Thursday, July 19th. Almost all of our Ducklings at some point go on to join our swim team, the Norwood Ducks.
The Ducklings program is led by our swim team coaches in the water. Ducklings is designed to be a pre-swim team program, where swimmers learn and practice advanced swimming skills. Ducklings is not designed to be a group swim lesson where basic swimming skills are taught.
In order to be in Ducklings, a swimmer must successfully demonstrate all the skills taught in Level 2 of our group lessons program with good comfort and body position: a front and back float without assistance, kicking on the front and back without assistance, crawl stroke arms on the front, rolling the body from front to back and back to front.
