WHAT: 2018 Open Water Swimming Carnival hosted by RICE
WHEN: Sunday, April 29th 2018
WHERE: Twin Lakes Scuba Park. This is a 31 acre aquifer fed lake. It is located on Highway 6, just 1.8 miles east of TX 288 in Manvel, TX 77578. Please note that Twin Lakes charges $5 per vehicle into the park.
DIRECTIONS: From Houston, go south on 288 past the Sam Houston Tollway about 8 miles. Exit Highway 6 and go east (left). Twin Lakes Scuba Park is 1.8 miles down on the right side of the road. Entry into the park and parking is $5 per vehicle. There are no changing rooms available but there are portable bathrooms.
WHO: This meet is open to TWST swimmers in the Black, Green, White and Senior groups. Because this is an open water meet, swimmers should be able to swim the distances offered in a pool to be able to swim them in the lake. If you have a question about your swimmer being ready for open water racing, please discuss with your group coach BEFORE committing your swimmer.
EVENTS: There are three events offered:
800 meter swim (one lap around the lake) at 9am with check in from 8-8:30am.
1600 meter swim (two laps around lake) at 10am with check in from 8-9:30am.
3200 meter swim (four laps around lake) at 11am with check in from 8-10am.
ELIGIBILITY: Swimmers aged 9 & over may enter the 800m swim. Swimmers aged 11 & over may enter the 800m and/or the 1600m swim. Swimmers aged 13 & Over may enter the 800m, 1600m and/or the 3200m swim.
MORE INFO: Staggered starts may be used by age or by gender at the discretion of the meet hosts. Race will start and finish in the water. It will be swum clockwise with buoys on staying on your right shoulder. Finish will be on a floating dock.
All swimmers must check in with the clerk of course and will be numbered (numbers written on arms). Each swimmer must be numbered :30 minutes prior to the start of their race.
Race fee is $30 for first race (includes meet tshirt) and $10 for each additonal race the swimmer enters.
DEADLINE TO COMMIT: Because this is an open water event, swimmers will NOT be auto-committed for this race. You must go online and commit your swimmer and choose the event distances by Monday, April 16th. Coaches will then make any changes or additions and you will have until end of practice on Thursday, April 19th to review. At the close of the review period, the meet file will be sent to the host team and all swimmers entered will be billed regardless of actual meet attendance.
