(A) Relay Carnival at North Creek (AWAY)
(this is a team hosted event)
A Relay Carnival | All six MCSL Division J teams compete in a meet comprised of relay events. Athletes experience a rare opportunity to compete with teammates in categories and combinations that include gender-specific, mixed-gender, age group, mixed age group, single stroke, mixed stroke, and varying distance relay events. This meet is historically a memorable experience charged with excitement and spirited rivalries. The Head Coach determines who will be swimming in the A Relay Carnival based on athletes’ times and availability. The event/s your child swims depends on the team’s best opportunity to score points. Although usually the coach selects swimmers for the lineups strictly on times, other factors go into play as well, so the swimmers with the fastest times on our swim team are not always chosen for the lineups. Please see the FAQ section of the Parent Handbook for a more in depth explanation. The line up will be emailed to Charger team members usually a day or two prior to the meet.
Except for the graduated freestyle and open medley events, teams that place first at Relay Carnival (and do not include swim ups) are invited to compete at MCSL Relay All-Stars at the outdoor Rockville Municiple Pool at the end of the MCSL summer season. Other teams may also be invited to Relay All-Stars based on their times. The graduated free and open medley relays are swum at all dual meets and at Divisionals. These relays will be selected for AllStar Relays based on best times over the season.

PARKING: You may drop swimmers and gear at entrance, but you will be asked to park in designated areas.
INCLEMENT WEATHER: In the event of inclement weather/lightening, the evacuation plan is for the team and wet swimmers to shelter in their vehicles. Buddy up.
TEAM AREA: TBD
Relay Carnival has a "carnival" atmosphere that is both exciting and chaotic. Swimmers must remain in the team area so the Calverton Clerk-of-Course can locate and usher swimmers to their lanes AND appropriate end of the pool for their events! Leaving the team area without notifying a coach or team rep could result in a missed event for an entire relay team.
COACH and PARENT RELAYS: There is traditionally a 100 Meter Coach's Medley Relay and a 100 Meter Freestyle Parent Relay immediately following event #22. We're always looking for Charger parents who would like to participate in Calverton's Parent relay team. Please contact any team rep if interested.
GOGGLES AND GEAR: Every Charger swimmer should come prepared with his/her team suit, cap, goggles, at least one towel in their swim bag. Seek shade and drinking plenty of water is essential to staying hydrated. SPF sunscreen is encouraged.
