2018 USA Swimming Futures Championships

August 2nd-5th, 2018

Host: USA Swimming & Santa Clara Swim Club

Facility: George F. Haines International Aquatic Center

Entry Deadline: Tuesday, July 24, 2018 (Planning on Sending Entries in early)

Late Entry Deadline:  Monday July 30, 2018 (Qualifying period is July 25-29, 2018)

Travel:  Athletes are expected to travel with the team to Santa Clara.  Any swimmers entered in the Distance events or the 800 FR relay on Thursday, Aug 2nd will be flying with at least one coach.  All other swimmers will be driving up with at least one coach.  After the conclusion of finals and dinner on the final day, the entire team will be driving back to Santa Clarita.

Athlete Pick Up:   After the conclusion of the finals session on the final day of the meet (Sunday), feel free to pick up your son or daughter to travel back home.  We want to make sure the team is supporting each other until the very end!  If you choose to have your son or daughter do family travel at the, please have them communicate with Coach Dave or Coach Kevin.

Swimmers:  Make sure to bring a Yellow Canyons cap, extra goggles, team suit, shoes to cover your feet while on deck, team warm ups, extra towel, sunscreen, healthy snacks, and a water bottle.  Always check the weather report leading up to a meet!

Teams Shirt: Thursday – Baby Blue, Friday – Gray, Saturday - Yellow, Sunday - Navy

Purpose and Goals:  The goal of the meet is to be competitive at a National level meet.  Athletes are expected to shave down, and wear technical racing suits to maximize racing performance.  The primary goal is to get 2nd swims to compete in finals.  This meet is a very good stepping stone towards competing at Junior National, and Senior National venues.

Format & Rules:  The 800m and 1500m freestyle and all relays will be timed final events.  All other individual events will be conducted as preliminaries and finals with the fastest 27 swimmers from preliminaries advancing to finals.  The order of the final events shall be C, B and A (bonus, consolation and championship).  At the Meet Referee’s discretion, preliminary sessions may be conducted in flights. Information on flighting, if any, will be provided at the Technical meeting.  A Ready Room will be used to assemble and parade “A” finalists and the fastest seeded heats of 800m and 1500m freestyle swimmers. These swimmers must report to the Ready Room no later than five minutes preceding the “Parade Time” for the event.
