Carr Fire Relief Fund
Redding Swim Team's Carr Fire Relief Fund
As with all other businesses and individuals in Redding, the Redding Swim Team suffered a catastrophic setback when the Carr Fire burned into town late July. Our swim family of 300 swimmers and their families were both directly and indirectly impacted by the fire. Six family homes were completely destroyed, while many families were evacuated along with nearly 50% of Redding's population. As a non-profit entity that depends on swimmer dues, swim meets, and fundraising events to maintain its swim program which has benefited the community for the last 66 years, the Redding Swim Team lost key opportunities to raise funds for its operations as a result of the Carr Fire. The team had to cancel a major fund raiser, the North Valley Aquatic League Championships, which usually raises $16,000 to support the team in addition are unable to recoup a large portion of the money spend to host the swim meet. To add injury and insult to the situation due to the immediate evacuation from the pool deck the night prior to the swim meet the Redding Swim Team lost $2,728 worth of equipment Stolen, damaged, and/or spoiled items.
The Redding Swim Team also lost an opportunity to raise another $7,000 through its annual open water swim meet at Whiskeytown Lake which was at the epicenter of the Carr Fire. So, as we take stock of our current situation, we feel pressed to reach out to current swimmers and alumni/ae of the Redding Swim Team as well as individuals and organizations that support Youth Sports and ask for your financial support during this most challenging and extraordinary time in our community's history. Donations will be used to finance the team's operational costs through the winter and maintain the swim programs that promise to shore up and elevate the youth of our community.
If you prefer to send a check we understand and our address is PO Box 992112, Redding, CA. 96099-2112. In the memo please write Carr Fire.
