Dearest Dolphin Families,
Please read the following statement from our Cabana League:
“Our Cabana League has been in existence for over 50 years. We have built a strong community based on traditions, fun and competition. The relationships and lasting memories we have together is the highlight of our summers and we were sincerely holding onto hope that we would somehow salvage a short season and make the best of it. Given the current environment, and under the current mandates of CDC, USA Swimming, Pacific Swimming and Santa Clara County, we have come to the conclusion that we will not have a season for the 2020 Cabana year. Thus, Champs has been canceled as well as all dual meets.
That being said, as restrictions are lifted, we will continue to watch and pay close attention to mandates that may allow us to celebrate our season in a different capacity. Whether that is age group activities, parades or breakfasts, we hope to figure out a way, as mandates allow, to continue to foster community spirit. In that spirit, please know that our graduating 2020 class seniors will be allowed to compete next year in 2021. Our commitment to the health and safety of our swimmers, coaches and all swim team families is of the utmost importance and we appreciate your understanding with this difficult League decision.”
Making the decision to cancel the swim season was an incredibly difficult one for us. We were so excited for this summer and had a fantastic season planned. Ultimately, it is the health and well being of our community that is most important. We do not have all of the answers or details right now, but here are some of the decisions that we already approved as a league:
1. All Seniors will be eligible to swim next year should they be interested in coming back. We hope they do!
2. Santa Teresa will host Champs next year (2021) which means we won’t host until the 2022 season.
In addition, your Parent Coordinators have decided the following for our Dolphin team:
1. All of our coaches are invited to return to their jobs next season.
2. Our team Captains (Mari and Alex) will be our Captains next season.
3. Our 9 Seniors were eligible for Hall of Fame at the beginning of this season and therefore will be automatically inducted.
REFUNDS: ACTION REQUIRED
We are pleased to inform you that you will receive a full refund including swim suit/cap orders and any merchandise orders that you did not already receive.
The Dolphins did incur some costs even though the season has been canceled. Additionally, we will be ordering blankets and awards for our Seniors and giving a small “thank you” gift to our coaches for putting in many pre-season planning hours. In light of this, we are asking each family to consider donating a suggested amount of $10/family from their refund to pay for these costs. This is completely voluntary and can be specified on the refund form below.
In order to receive your refund, please click and complete the following form: DOLPHIN REFUNDS.
Completing this form will make the refund process easier for us, thank you in advance. Also, thank you for your patience as we issue refunds. It will take some time.
Let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We will deeply miss all of you this summer. We take great comfort in the fact that our Dolphin Spirit is alive and well. We will get through this!
The Almaden summer swim team is open to the children and grandchildren of Proprietary members and children of Associate members of the Almaden Cabana Club. Being a part of the Dolphin swim team is a fun way to introduce children to competitive swimming while forming lasting friendships.
The Dolphins are one of 6 local teams in the Cabana Club Swim League. The league includes the Almaden Dolphins, Creekside Cudas, Crossgate Gators, Pinehurst Piranhas, Santa Teresa Sea Otters, and Shadow Brook Sharks. The season runs from mid-April through mid-July and consists of Time Trials, 5 dual meets and one championship meet. To top it all off, there are many fun and memorable family events throughout the season.
