All New Jersey Swimming,

It is with great sadness that we are announcing the passing of BAC Head Coach Jim Wood.  For many of us, he was our family away from home, our mentor, our biggest fan, and motivator extraordinaire.  For that, we are grateful he was a part of so many lives, leading through wit and wisdom, and by example, challenging us to challenge ourselves to achieve great things.  He will be missed, but not forgotten for the legacy he leaves behind lives on.

Our condolences go out to his family and friends in this time of great sorrow.
It is at this time that we would like to reflect upon his many accomplishments, his impact on USA Swimming as well as the coaching legacy that he now leaves behind.

Jim founded BAC back in 1977 and since that time he had always been steadfast in his
commitment to excellence in training student athletes. He served 12 years as the Coordinator of the USA Swimming Olympic International Operations Committee and as Technical Vice President for 4 years, while also serving 2 terms as President of USA Swimming. Moreover, Jim also served as the President of USA Aquatic Sports and was inducted into the American Swim Coaches Hall of Fame in 2011. In 2003, he was honored with the USA Swimming Award. In 2015 USA Swimming and Speedo USA named Jim one of the “30 Most Influential People in Swimming over the Past 30 Years” for having made a significant impact on the sport.

Jim was a huge contributor & member of New Jersey Swimming For over 30 years. He served as President, Treasurer, Admin Chair, Senior Chair, Senior & Junior Coach Representative, helping bring NJ Swimming to the forefront.

However, despite the many achievements that mark his life and coaching career, Jim was a humble man who never looked for praise, but rather wanted to serve as a mentor to those that walked through the doors of BAC. He viewed swimming as merely a conduit to teaching consequential life lessons including the importance of teamwork, to excel academically and to respect others.
