Below is a biography of Bobby's swimming history. After Ray?s announcement Bobby was sought after from our original search in 2014. He was interviewed in 2014 by our PAC interviewing team and he was a recommended candidate. At the time he was offered a full time opportunity at FSPY and opted to continue his career there. In the meantime he has only expanded upon his knowledge of the sport and the general operations of a swim team. He is in an even better position now to take on the role of Director of Competitive Aquatics at the HCYMCA.

Bobby grew up in Edison, NJ and started his swimming career as a member of the Rahway YMCA and Metuchen-Edison YMCA swim teams for 14 years. He graduated from Rutgers University in 2008 with a degree in Business Economics, and worked in the Banking & Insurance industry from 2006-2014. His coaching career began in 2008 by accident: as a favor to his sister, who needed someone to help coach a spring clinic at the Woodbridge YMCA, he began working with the 13 and overs to help develop their competitive swimming skills. This resulted in a growing passion and love for coaching, so after spending two years there he joined the coaching staff at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA in 2010 as a Head Age Group Coach for the 13-14's and as an Assistant National Team Coach. In 2014 Bobby expanded his role, taking on responsibilities as the Head Age Group Coach for the 11-12s and as a full-time assistant coach. He is an ASCA Level 3 certified coach who while at FSPY has led many swimmers to success, including YMCA National Top 16 Finishers, NJ YMCA State Champions, and NJ State Record Holders. In 2015, under his guidance, the FSPY 13/14 age group placed 2nd overall at NJ YMCA State Championships, including a 1st place overall finish for the 13/14 Girls. They followed that up with a 4th place overall finish in 2016, including a 1st place finish for the 13/14 boys. On the YMCA national level, during his time as a coach the team has grown exponentially, all the way up to 26 qualifiers in 2016. At this year?s YMCA Long Course Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA team finished 5th overall, including a 4th place finish for the women, and a national championship in the Women?s 200 Freestyle Relay, and 400 Medley Relay.

Away from the pool, Bobby is happily engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Ali Heitner, whom he met while coaching at the Woodbridge YMCA. They currently live in Matawan, NJ with their puppy, a miniature dachshund named Clyde, and will be getting married in August of 2017. He?s huge fan of the New York Yankees, New Jersey Devils and Rutgers Football, and enjoys attending games with friends and family as often as possible. Cars and racing are also a hobby of his, as he grew up attending motorsports events and competitions with his dad every year. Bobby?s favorite part of coaching is the relationships he forms with his swimmers, and joy it brings to see them reach their goals and have success. He?s also a big believer in keeping things fresh, and welcomes new ideas and challenges to foster an environment of continual growth and improvement.

Bobby is scheduled to begin his career with the HCY on Monday, August 29th.
