2020 SWIM & DIVE PRACTICE SEASON - REGISTRATION NOW CLOSED.
Friends of Goodman Waves Board is happy to announce that the Waves will have a shortened and limited 2020 practice season starting in early July! In response to COVID-19, Goodman Pool is following guidelines from the CDC and the Public Health Department of Dane County, which will impact how the pool is typically utilized. Things will look and feel different. Given these parameters and with the expressed interest from families, the Goodman Board took the planning of this practice season very seriously with the primary goal of getting the most kids in the water safely while practicing social distancing. This meant changes to how we arrive and leave the pool; how we spend time on the pool deck, and how we practice. The Goodman Waves will be limited to returning 2019 athletes, with participation in either swim or dive only (no dual athletes), practice times, and number of spots available. These were not easy decisions to make and we appreciate everyone's flexibility and understanding that the health of our Waves families is of the utmost importance and guides these limitations. We are grateful to the City for giving us some pool space Monday - Saturday to accommodate swim and dive team, albeit smaller. The Goodman Board will be working with the City of Madison in ongoing discussions throughout the summer to address any issues that may arise.
COVID-19 Update (May 21, 2020)
IMPORTANT UPDATE: The 2020 All-City Swim and Dive Meets, including dual and championship meets, have been canceled due to the continued health and wellness concerns associated with COVID-19, and the current and projected gathering restrictions. Below you'll find the formal statement from the All-City League Board President on this decision. Goodman and Ridgewood Pools will be back to host the championship meets in 2021, and we can't wait to see everyone back in the pool! Let the (new) countdown begin!
Message from All City Board President
There is no higher priority than the health and safety of our athletes and their families. Clearly, the public health emergency associated with COVID-19 requires adjustment to ensure societal well-being.
Although it was a difficult decision, the All-City League board of directors has unanimously decided to cancel the All-City Swim and Dive Meets for 2020.
Due to the gathering restrictions required in the "Forward Dane" Plan from Public Health Madison & Dane County, and our concern for the health and well-being of all athletes, coaches, volunteers and spectators, the league has also canceled all dual meet competitions for 2020.
These were extremely tough decisions by the board, but in the absence of a vaccine or treatments specific to COVID-19, we need to do our part to safeguard the community.
Ben Callan, President
