You'll get access to your own private account that will enable you easily declare for swim meets, sign-up for jobs, see your children's swim times history, maintain your own contact information, and more.

ALTITUDE PERFORMANCE SWIM TEAM wants the swimmers to realize that their priorities should be family, academics and swimming. We also encourage swimmers to participate in other sports and participate on their high school swim team.

ALTITUDE PERFORMANCE SWIM TEAM is a quality training program. We train to race, not train to train. During the academic year Altitude trains at USAFA Cadet Natatorium on Monday through Thursday and Satruday/Sunday the team trains at Rampart High School.

Mike Stromberg, Head Coach/Owner
Coach Mike has been involved with swimming for 44 years.  His success has been at all levels, club, high school, YMCA and collegiately.  He coached at the University of North Dakota for 20 years, his women's team was in the NCAA Top 6 for 17 straight years and for those accomplisments, he was recognized in 1989 and 1999 as NCAA II National Women's Swim Coach of the Year.  He is certify as ASCA Level 5.

Austin Smith, Assistant Coach
Austin is a graduate of the University of North Dakota in Kinesiology.  He was a collegiate breaststroker (53.85) and WAC 200 Breaststroke Record Holder.  Austin has been with Altitude since the beginning as a swimmer and now as a swim coach.  He just missed the 2016 Olympic Trials in the 100 breast by .01. Austin has been an USAFA Men's Volunteer Assistant and Rampart High School assistant boy’s swim coach.

Justine Fedde, Assistant Coach
Justine is excited to be a coach with Altitude. She has been coaching since 2013. While living in North Dakota, she was an assistant coach to ASK and Bismarck Aquastrom club teams. With Aquastrom, she helped coach the team to 5 consecutive State Championship Wins.
In 2015 she began coaching high school girls. As the Co-Head Coach of Bismarck Century Girls she helped lead them to two consecutive Regional and State Titles including several All American swims.
She swam in college for Valparaiso University as a Butterfly and Mid-Distance specialist. Before that she swam for Rochester Adams High School in Michigan and many other local club teams.
She moved to Colorado to pursue her career as a civil transportation engineer. Her husband Kevin is a photographer and former collegiate swimmer himself.

Karen Athen - Assistant Coach
Born in England, Karen moved to California at a young age and began swimming competitively at the age of eight with the Fairfield Seahorses. She swam mostly for the summer swim league and few years with the year-round AAU Team, Solano Aquatics Club where she had her first opportunity to coach. She is a backstroker who qualified for regional meets all four years of high school and was an All-American in 50 back in the early 80s. As well as swimming, Karen also played water polo in high school and beyond.
Karen began coaching at the age of 18 when, while coaching for the Fairfield Aquatic Club, she developed a program for developmental swimmers into competitive swimmers within one summer. Some even competed in 100 IMs their first year. She finds few things as rewarding as helping young swimmers achieve their goals.
After raising her children, Karen returned to coaching as the assistant boys and girls swim coach at Vista Ridge High School until they cancelled the program due to budget cuts. Karen has worked with swimmers of all ages and most levels, but her first love is still age groupers. She has spent the last 3.5 years serving as the head swim coach at Life Time Fitness in Colorado Springs, where she coached all levels and produced many state qualifiers. During Karen’s tenure at Life Time, the team nearly doubled in size and has continued to grow in quality and quantity.
A few years ago, at the age of 47, she finally succeeded in a longtime goal of competing in a 70.3 Ironman competition. Which goes to prove, you are never too old to achieve your dreams.

Altitude Performance coaching staff has special individuals that work with the swimmers.  The first one is Milt Nelms, one of the best stroke coaches in the world.  He makes several stops in Colorado Springs to work with Altitude swimmers.
