Welcome to the Ketchikan
Killer Whales Website!
Our club is organized as a nonprofit, year-round
age group and senior competitive swim club and is open to all swimmers ages 5 and
older, from novice to national
competition levels.
No previous swim
club experience is necessary to join and new swimmers need not
be proficient in the four strokes. However, they should be able to
swim the length of the pool - 25 yards - unassisted. (Dog
paddle is acceptable!) Swimmer must also have enough endurance to
sustain a one hour workout or plan to attend regularly enough to
develop that endurance within a short period of
time.
The team practices 5
days a week, year-round and participates in approximately one swim
meet per month. Attendance at swim meets is optional, but
strongly encouraged.
Practice groups are set
according to age and swimmer ability. Monthly coaching fees
vary, according to practice group.
The team is managed
by a volunteer Parent Board and with the support of all of the
parents on the team. Parents are expected to volunteer at all team
events that their swimmers attend -- for example, as a timer at
swim meets or a lap counter at our swim-a-thon. All families
are also expected to work a minimum of 30 hours per season at any
swim meet that our team hosts and runs.
