Membership Information

 

Welcome to the Soo Y Dolphins Swim Team (SYD), a non-profit organization that has provided youth swimming activities since 1965.  SYD fosters self-esteem and encourages sportsmanship.  Our competitive swimming program is designed to meet the needs of every swimmer, from those who simply want to improve their skills to the very serious competitor. 

SYD offers 4 levels of competitive swimming:

Fundamental – Swimmer must be able to swim one length of the pool – any stroke to join the team.  Emphasis is on having fun, this pre-competitive program is ideal for young swimmers who want to learn one or more of the 4 competitive strokes, to turn and to dive.  Swimmers are encouraged to attend MTSL meets.

Bronze – Swimmer must be able to swim 50 yards non-stop.  Emphasis is on stroke technique and fundamental concepts, while building the swimmer’s confidence in competitive environment. Swimmers are encouraged to attend MTSL meets.

Silver – Swimmer must be able to swim 50 yards of all four competitive strokes.  Must be able to use pace clock.  Emphasis on stroke technique streamlines breakouts and finishes.  Swimmers will be perfecting their stroke technique while building their endurance.  Swimmers are encouraged to attend MTSL meets along with USA Swimming meets.

Gold – Swimmer must be able to use pace clock, race starts and race turns.  This level comprises of highly advanced and dedicated swimmers who have mastered all four strokes.  Swimmers are encouraged to attend MTSL meets along with USA Swimming meets.

 

Membership Fees

You must be a member of the YMCA to join the Soo Y Dolphins.

Fall 2016 to Spring 2017 registration cost

  • $325.00 Registration fee for the club
  • $50.00 Swimming meet fees
    • this cost should cover the cost for the first two swim meet fees 
    • please note the cost varies on the exchange of the US dollar versus the Canadian dollar
  • $50.00 YMCA fee 

Total Fee for the year = $425.00

Registration with the Soo Y Dolphins is available on September 17, 2016. Please visit the YMCA from 8:30 AM – 10:00AM to register for the club. Registration location; craft room (lower level).
