Why should my child swim?

There are many benefits to getting your child involved in competitive swimming, including:

  • Swimming promotes physical development.
  • Swimming develops aerobic endurance and is one of the most beneficial forms of cardiovascular exercise.
  • Swimming enhances a child’s natural flexibility and promotes muscle development.
  • Swimming develops superior coordination.
  • Swimming is the most injury-free of all children’s sports.
  • Swimming is a sport that will bring children fitness and enjoyment for life.
  • Swimming promotes time management and is one of the top academically achieving sports.

Who wants to get wet?!

You don’t have to be a great swimmer to get started with the Winskill Dolphins. Our entry level programs (Mini Dolphins and Junior Dolphins) are specifically designed for swimmers who enjoy the water and can complete an unassisted length of our "dive tank," which is about 15 metres long. Our emphasis is on establishing stroke technique in a fun and challenging environment.

If your child loves to swim and is ready to take the next step up from a lesson program or playing around in your backyard pool, then joining Winskill Dolphins is the way to go.

We are always open to new members

Swimmers are welcome to join our team at any time from September through March!  From Junior Dolphins to Age Group and up, the Dolphins have programs running from September to July.  Mini Dolphins runs as a Fall, Winter and/or Spring program.

Online registration is on-going throughout the year from now until the end of March.

New members should contact the Head Coach to arrange an assessment.

New Swimmer Assessments - "What can I expect?"

a. Book an assessment

To schedule an assessment, please contact the Head Coach.

b. What to wear?

Swimmers must come to the assessment session ready to swim. This includes:

  • Proper swim training attire. Baggy shorts, bikinis or ’beach wear’ are discouraged.  Suits can be purchased through the club if joining.
  • Goggles
  • A swim cap if your child’s hair is long enough to get in their eyes.
c. Where to go?
New swimmer assessments are often held at the  Winskill Aquatic & Fitness Centre. Meet the Coach on the pool deck.

d. What to expect?
Evaluations will determine if the child is ready for organized swimming, and which of our training groups would be most appropriate for them. All activities are age appropriate and simulate what athletes will experience in actual sessions. Assessments usually take 10-15 minutes.
