WFLA encourages swimmers to try out our program prior to
registering with the team. New swimmers can participate in
our program for up to two weeks prior to registering with the
team. To register, each swimmer will need to have a City of
Largo Recreation card, a New Swimmer Registration form (available
on this website), a Medical Release form (available on this
website), a Florida Swimming Registration form (available on this
website-----needs to have a copy of birth certificate attached and
a check to Florida Swimming for $66.00), and a check for first
month's dues to WFLA. These can be turned in to your
swimmer's coach on deck.
Once you are registered, you will be added to our website, and
you will receive a password to log onto the website. You will
be able to enter swim meets, see your swimmer's times, and access
team billing to view your account. You will receive emails
updating you on team information, meet sign up deadlines etc.
Your swimmer will be placed into the workout group that best
fits his/her needs, motivation, and ability. WFLA is designed
to provide a place for every swimmer to strive to reach their
goals. Your swimmer's coach will determine readiness to move
from group to group within the WFLA program. If you have
questions regarding workout groups, please speak with your
swimmer's coach, or the WFLA Head Coach.
We encourage you to observe practices occasionally, and we ask
that parents observing practices sit either in the area provided by
the rec. center (with tables and chairs), or under the overhang by
the bath house. We ask that you do not sit at either end of
the pool, behind swimmers' lanes. It makes it difficult for
our coaches to work with the swimmers if they are distracted by the
parents on deck. Thank you.
As a member of WFLA, you will be asked to volunteer at our three
home meets. They are in May, June, and October. We host
these meets, and can only run them successfully with the help of
our entire membership. You will be asked to sign up to work a
minimum of three sessions for our May and October meets, and a
minimum of four sessions for our June meet. Opportunities to
help include timing, working in hospitality (serves the coaches and
officials), working in concessions, selling heat sheets, doing
awards, or working the grill. You will be able to sign
up via our website prior to the event, and we do ask that you do
this by the deadline so that we know what positions we will need to
fill prior to the start of the meet.
We hold an annual membership meeting in September of every
year. The date of this meeting will be announced. This
is an important meeting, as your Head Coach will update you on the
upcoming year, practice policies, team schedule, championship meet
info., team activities, coaching changes etc. Your Board
President will also update you on any new news from the WFLA Board
of Directors, and the membership will vote on the new Board members
for the upcoming year.
Fundraising is an important part of WFLA. Our biggest
fundraiser is our annual Aquathon held each April. We do this
in conjunction with our team pictures. This event is on a
Friday evening, and is typically a fun filled evening with a team
cookout and games following the aquathon. We encourage each
swimmer to go out and fill their sponsor sheet prior to this
event.
WFLA has an annual Awards Banquet in May of every year.
This is a fun evening in which we honor our athletes on their
accomplishments for the year.
Parents, please, as questions arise, feel free to email Head
Coach, Cashel Mack at [email protected], or
Head Age Group Coach, Cathy Frazier at [email protected]
